10.3.1 Initial settings
Problem Cause & Solution
I cannot hear a dial tone. R If you used a splitter/coupler to connect the unit, remove the splitter/coupler
and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly,
check the splitter/coupler.
R Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect a known working
telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service
personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not
operate properly, contact your telephone company.
R The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the
connections.
R If you have connected the fax machine through a computer modem, connect
the fax machine directly to a telephone line jack.
The unit does not work.
R Check the connections (page 17).
R Make sure that the cordless handset’s battery is installed correctly
(page 15) and fully charge it (page 18).
The unit does not ring. R The ringer volume is turned OFF. Adjust it (page 19).
I cannot make calls. R The dialling mode setting may be wrong. Change the setting (feature #13
on page 40).
R The cordless handset is too far from the base unit. Move closer and try
again.
10.3.2 General
Problem Cause & Solution
The unit displays “PAPER
JAMMED” even though paper
is installed.
R You forced the recording paper into the paper tray too strongly. Remove all
of the installed paper, and re-install it gently.
The unit displays “CHECK
PAPER” even though paper is
inserted.
R The paper is inserted halfway. Insert it correctly (page 62) and press
MSETN to clear the message.
The other party complains
they only hear a fax tone and
cannot talk.
R FAX ONLY mode is set. Tell the other party the number is only used for
faxes.
R Change the receiving mode to TEL mode (page 30), TEL/FAX mode
(page 30) or TAM/FAX mode (page 31).
MREDIALN or MPAUSEN on the
base unit does not function
properly.
R If this button is pressed during dialling, a pause will be inserted. If pressed
immediately after a dial tone is obtained, the last number dialled will be
redialled.
During programming, I
cannot enter the code or ID
number.
R All or part of the number is the same as another code or ID. Change the
number:
– remote operation ID (code): page 37, or feature #11 on page 39.
– fax activation code: feature #41 on page 42.
– auto disconnection code: feature #49 on page 43.
The ink film runs out quickly. R Even if there are only a few sentences, every page that comes out of the
machine is considered a full page.
R Turn OFF the following features:
– sending report: feature #04 on page 39.
– journal report: feature #22 on page 40.
– Caller ID list: feature #26 on page 41.
The base unit beeps. R The memory reception alert of feature #44 is ON (page 42), and the unit has
a document in memory. Press MSTOPN to stop the beeps, then see the
displayed message instructions to solve the problem.
