Simple setup STEP Positioning the speakers Step 1: Positioning the speakers Positioning for best effect How you set up your speakers can affect the bass and the sound field. Note the following points. • Place speakers on flat secure bases. • Placing speakers too close to floors, walls, and corners can result in excessive bass. Cover walls and windows with a thick curtain. • Keep your speakers at least 10 mm away from the system for proper ventilation. • The angles in the diagrams are approximate.

Conserving power The unit consumes a small amount of power (approx. 0.9 W) even when it is in standby mode. To save power when the unit is not to be used for a long time, unplug it from the household mains socket. You will need to reset some memory items after plugging in the unit.

Convenient functions The play/record timer You can set the timer to come on at a certain time to wake you up (play timer) or to record from radio station, “MUSIC P.”, “AUX” or “AV” (record timer). The play and record timers cannot be used together. • Switch on the unit and set the clock (➡ Setting the time, page 12). • For the play timer, prepare the desired music source (tape, CD, radio, “MUSIC P.”, “AUX”, “AV” or USB) and set the volume.
Using the VIERA Link “HDAVI ControlTM” Speaker control u, 2/REW t, SLOW/SEARCH What is VIERA Link “HDAVI Control”? VIERA Link “HDAVI Control” is a convenient function that offers linked operations of this unit, and a Panasonic television (VIERA) under “HDAVI Control”. You can use this function by connecting the equipment with the HDMI cable. See the operating instructions for connected equipment for operational details. This unit supports “HDAVI Control 2” function.
Using the VIERA Link “HDAVI ControlTM” Using other equipment VIERA Link Control only with TV’s remote control (for “HDAVI Control 2”) You can control the disc menus of the stereo system with the TV’s remote control when using the “DVD/CD” or “USB” source. Typically, USB memory devices. (Bulk only transfer) Preparation Before connecting any USB mass storage device to the unit, ensure that the data stored therein has been backed up. Glossary DivX DivX is a popular media technology created by DivX, Inc. DivX media files contain highly compressed video with high visual quality that maintains a relatively small file size. Dolby Digital This is a method of coding digital signals developed by Dolby Laboratories. Apart from stereo (2-channel) audio, these signals can also be multi-channel audio. A large amount of audio information can be recorded on one disc using this method.
Troubleshooting guide Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions. (HDMI function is only available for SC-NC9.) ■ Power No power. Cannot add markers. • You cannot add markers if the disc’s elapsed play time doesn’t appear on the unit’s display. • The unit reads and displays the markers added with a DVD video recorder. Zoom function may not work well, especially in dark scenes and may not work depending on the type of disc.
“DVD U11” “ERROR” • Disc is dirty. Wipe it clean. • Incorrect operation performed. Read the instructions and try again. “DVD H ” “DVD F ” stands for a number. • Trouble may have occurred. The number following "H" and “F” depend on the status of the unit”. Turn the unit off and then back on. Alternatively, turn the unit off, disconnect the AC mains lead, and then reconnect it. • If the service numbers fail to clear, note the service number and contact a qualified service person.
