4 STEP Connecting the antennas and AC power supply cord Connect the AC power supply after all other connections are complete. Cassette tapes Cassette tape selection and care Use normal position tapes. High position and metal position tapes can be played, but the unit is not able to do full justice to the characteristics of these tapes. • Tapes exceeding 100 minutes are thin and can break or get caught in the mechanism. slack can get caught up in the mechanism and should be wound up before the tape is played. Endless tapes can get caught up in the deck’s moving parts if used incorrectly.
Recording Types of tape which can be recorded correctly Use normal position tapes. High position and metal position tapes can be used, but the unit is not able to record or erase them correctly. Preparatory steps Do these steps before each recording. Wind up the leader tape so recording can begin immediately. OPEN Press to open and insert a cassette Tape facing you (see A A page 23, Insert cassette) – make sure that the cassette is fully inserted and close the lid by hand.

Troubleshooting guide Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, refer to the “Customer Services Directory” on page 39 if you reside in the U.S.A., or refer to “Product information” on page 4 if you reside in Canada. Page Power Reference No power. The unit is automatically switched to the standby mode. • • Insert the AC power supply cord securely.
Noise is heard. “ST” flickers or doesn’t light. Sound is distorted. A beat sound is heard. Glossary Tray/disc handling procedure Decoder A decoder restores the coded audio signals on DVDs to normal. This is called decoding. Not adhering to the following may cause problems. Opening/closing a disc tray Dolby Digital This is a method of coding digital signals developed by Dolby Laboratories. Apart from stereo (2-channel) audio, these signals can also be multi-channel audio. A large amount of audio information can be recorded on one disc using this method.
