OSHA 29 CFR § 1910.145 ANSI Z535
Traditional OSHA-style signs and labels are the
most widely recognized design format in industry.
They use upper case lettering, and the message
is generally centered underneath the header. This
standardized sign format continues today to be the
choice for selecting messages in safety signs.
Newer ANSI-style signs and labels are gaining in
popularity and are recognized by OSHA as an acceptable
safety notification device. Signs often include a visual
alert symbol (triangle with an exclamation point!), a
large symbol, and left-justified upper and lower case
message lettering. These signs are clearly visible and
provide concise safety alert messages.
