CAUTION: DISCONNECT ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS BEFORE

PROCEEDING WITH DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY

1. Disconnect the 1/50HP motor from the existing magnetic drive assembly by unscrewing the

upper cover (2982HC) from the end cap (2717HC2) as shown in Picture 1.

2. Loosen set screw in drive adapter (2938HC) and remove the drive adapter from the motor

shaft. Set the motor aside.

3. Remove the stirrer shaft from existing magnetic drive assembly

4. Remove the magnetic drive assembly from the reactor head using a 264AC4 spanner wrench.

5. Some external fittings may need to be removed for easier removal of the magnetic drive

assembly.

ASSEMBLING THE 5500 RETRO-FIT 1. Unscrew the (3) 8-32 x 3/8 BHSCS from the Top Cap (3078HC) to separate the Top Cap from the (3) support rods (3080HC) using the 3/32” socket screw key provided. Remove the (2) Hose Barbed Connectors from the Cooling Sleeve. This will help with installation of the Retro-Fit Assembly into the head. 3.

Rotate bottom cap and rods to clear external fittings Picture 3 5. With ears of bottom cap clear of fittings continue to screw in the retro-fit assembly into the head of the reactor and tighten with the spanner wrench. 6. Rotate cooling sleeve so that the hose barbed connector openings are also clear of external fittings and screw back in the connectors previously removed. 7. Reinstall stirrer shaft into the magnetic drive assembly.

Align the holes in the Top Cap (3078HC) with the (3) support rods and install the (3) 8-32 X 3/8 BHSCS with the 3/32” socket screw key provided, making sure the support rods seat firmly in the counter-bores of the Top Cap. (See picture 4) Note: making sure rods seat firmly in counter-bores will ensure a level top cap and correct gap in coupling.

Bottom cap must seat flat against the ring on the magnetic drive assembly body before tightening set screws (2) 8-32 x 1/4 socket head set screw Picture 5 9. Make sure the bottom cap is seated flat on the ring of the magnetic drive assembly body as shown in picture 4 and tighten the (2) 8-32 x 1/4 SHSS with the 5/64” socket screw key provided. 10.

Screw existing motor onto the top cap of retro-fit assembly, aligning the coupling half on the motor with the blue spider hub on the coupling that is attached to the magnetic drive assembly (see Picture 7). Continue to screw in the motor until it is snug against the top cap.

Check set screw of the coupling on drive adapter and tighten if necessary. With the correct installation of all parts there should be a gap between the coupling halves. 13. Finished assembly should look similar to Picture 8 depending on existing reactor head configuration.
