Side Trimmer — Scrap Chopper
The Application
A large Midwestern machinery OEM utilized
PCT Engineered Systems to design and
fabricate a custom control system for a Side
Trimmer — Scrap Chopper machine to be
exported to Russia. Field startup needed to
be minimized due to the remote location of the
end user.
The PCT Solution
PCT Engineered Systems worked with the
OEM to insure the control system met the
demanding needs of the end user.
The control system was based on the Siemens S7 PLC controlling Simoreg 6RA70 DC
drives. Operator interface was provided with several control stations including a WinCC
operator station:
• Positioning side trimmer knife vertical
gap
• Positioning side trimmer knife
horizontal gap
• Positioning HSG traverse
• Side trimmer speed regulation
•
Scrap chopper speed regulation
•
Side trimmer logic and sequencing
•
Scrap chopper logic and sequencing
The entire control system was designed and fabricated at
PCT’s facilities in Davenport. Multiple simulations and
tests were performed prior to shipment to the OEM in Ohio.
The system shipped to Russia with startup completed by a
Siemens factory representative.
