1. Safety precautions This product complies with the requirements of the following European Community Directives: 2014/30/EC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and 2014/35/EC (Low Voltage) as amended by 2014/32/EC (CE-Marking). Overvoltage category III 1000 V / IV 600 V; pollution degree 2.
To ensure safe operation of the equipment and eliminate the danger of serious injury due to short-circuits (arcing), the following safety precautions must be observed. Damages resulting from failure to observe these safety precautions are exempt from any legal claims whatever. * * * * * * * * Do not subject the equipment to direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, extreme humidity or dampness Do not operate the equipment near strong magnetic fields (motors, transformers etc.
2. Introduction The P 1700 fork clamp meter is used to measure current on equipment. The fork-shaped opening of the device allows the user to perform a fast and effective current measurement in hard to reach areas. Examples of this are the measurements on terminal blocks in control cabinets or individual wires / leads on electrical devices.
3.
3.1. AC current measurement WARNING: Make sure that the test leads are disconnected from the meter before performing the current measurement. The fork current meter is able to measure alternating currents up to 200 amperes. The measurements are carried out without contact and without separate test leads which must be connected to the instrument. 1. 2. 3.
measurement Set the selector switch to the measuring function Low Z. With the MODE button it is possible to change the setting between DC and AC voltage. Phantom values: In low DC and AC voltage ranges and unconnected and thus open inputs, the LCD display shows so-called phantom values: that means not "000". This is normal and does not constitute a defect of the device. The low input impedance of the Low Z metering function will not affect the meter. 3.
3.4.1 Continuity test During the continuity test, the test object is connected to the measuring device. If the test specimen is continuous, a tone sounds (lower 50). The resistance value is also displayed during the continuity test. 3.4.2 Diode measurement The diode measurement determines whether a diode is intact or defective. In the normal case, the measurement becomes a value between 0.400 V and 0.900 V, on the side to be conducted, and OL on the side which is not conductive. 3.4.
3.6 More functions There are more functions, which are also included such as the Max / Min button, the Data HOLD button, the automatic switch-off, the backlight and the flashlight. To determine the maximum and minimum values of a measurement, simply press the Max / Min key. With the Data HOLD key it is possible to freeze the current value. The automatic shutdown takes about 15 minutes and switches off the device.
