Introduction The Media Browser provides an overview of all the recordings on the HDD. You can display a list of all recordings according to certain criteria (e.g. recording date, protected,...). You can select recordings in the Media Browser for playback, editing, or transferring (archiving) to a DVD+RW, DVD+R. Introduction to the set 9 Remote control buttons 1 REC/OTR n Record the current TV show on the HDD, mark recordings in the Time Shift Buffer to be stored on HDD. Hold button down to start the recording from now. (Mark the recording from the beginning of the actual position in the Time Shift Buffer). 2 STANDBY m Switch set on or off. A programmed recording (TIMER) or an archiving process will be continued until the end, before the device will be switched off.

Installation Preparing the remote control for operation The remote control and its batteries are packed separately in the original DVD recorder packaging. Install the batteries in the remote control before use. 1 Take the remote control and the enclosed 2 batteries. If you remove the batteries, the selected code is stored for about 5 minutes before resetting to 000. The following TV functions can be used: 9 TV VOLUME q , TV VOLUME r Increase/decrease the TV volume.
Installation Connecting to the TV (standard configuration) 9 Connecting the aerial 9 Connecting the scart cable To receive TV programmes you have to connect the DVD-recorder to the aerial or the cable network. The scart (Euro AV) cable is a the universal connector for picture, sound and control signals with practically no loss of picture or sound quality. 1 Switch off your TV. 2 Remove the aerial cable plug A from your TV, and insert it into the ANTENNA IN K socket at the back of the DVD recorder.
Installation 9 Connection via composite video (CVBS) cable This cable, usually with yellow Cinch connectors, transmits a Composite Video signal (FBAS, CVBS). The colour signal and the brightness signal are transmitted on the same cable. In certain circumstances, this can lead to slight problems with the picture, such as 'Moiré' patterns.

Connecting additional devices How can I switch to the scart socket EXT2 AUX-I/O M ? If necessary, use the TUNER 0 button to switch to the internal tuner. Select programme number 'EXT1' with 0 on the remote control and then select programme number 'EXT2' with CHANNEL r S . 9 Connecting an external receiver 1 Connect the scart socket of the receiver (satellite receiver, set-top box, cable TV box,...) provided for the TV (usually labelled 'TV', 'TO TV',...) with the EXT2 AUX-I/O M socket of the DVD recorder.
Connecting additional devices Connecting G9LINK transmitter 2 Position the G-LINK transmitter J in front of the external receiver so that the control signal (IR signal) can be transmitted and received by the receiver unhindered. The external receiver (satellite receiver, set-top box, cable TV box) is controlled via the DVD recorder with the G-LINK cable J (supplied). This means you can record TV shows that are received only through the external receiver.
Connecting additional devices You can also connect a video recorder or a DVD player to the EXT2 AUX-I/O M input socket. The DVD recorder must be connected directly to the TV via the EXT1 TO TV-I/O N socket. If there is a video recorder in between the picture quality may be poor because of the copy protection system built into the DVD recorder.

These can be used to connect the following: •) a receiver with Dolby Surround Pro Logic •) a receiver with two9channel analog stereo Can I use the 'Phono' input on my amplifier? Do not use this input for connecting the DVD recorder. The DVD recorder or the amplifier may be damaged as a result.

The GUIDE Plus+® System Using the GUIDE Plus+ ® System 9 General information For the GUIDE Plus+® system to operate correctly, it is necessary for the DVD recorder to collect the necessary data. The DVD recorder may take up to 24 hours to do this. Please note the following: •) All the TV channels must already have been installed. •) The TV channel that transmits the GUIDE Plus+® system information must be installed.
The navigation in the GUIDE Plus+® System Press GUIDE/TV J to view the main menu. Press A I to select the menu line. You can select one of the following functions with D K or C M . Playback from an optical disc DVD+RW (Digital Versatile Disc + rewriteable) DVD+R (Digital Versatile Disc + recordable) This disc can also be not finalised. DVD Video (Digital Versatile Disc) 9 Regional code DVDs must be marked 'ALL' for all regions or '2' for region 2 to work in this device. If the DVD is marked with a different region, it cannot be played in this DVD recorder. The number within the globe represents the region. Playback from an optical disc Playing an MP3 CD MP3 (MPEG1 Audio Layer-3) files are highly compressed music files. Using this technology the data volume can be compressed by a factor of 10. This means it is possible to record 10 hours of music in CD quality on a single CD-ROM. Additional playback features DVD's are divided in titles and chapters. ENGLISH General O Press N U twice to return to the start of the previous title/chapter. O During playback, press O V to go to the next title. If there are several chapters within a title, the next chapter. Use the T/C Y (title/chapter) button - Press T/C Y (title/chapter) and then use A I or B O to select the appropriate title. Make sure the symbol 'T' (title) is selected in the menu bar.
Additional playback features Search by time [DVD, (S)VCD] Using this feature you can select where playback should start (select elapsed time). 1 During playback press SYSTEM MENU A on the remote control. P The menu bar will appear at the top of the screen. 2 Select the 'L' symbol using C M or D K and confirm with BO. P Playback is stopped and a box appears on the screen showing the elapsed time. 3 Enter the start time with the digit keys 0..9 from where playback should start. 4 Confirm with OK L .
Additional playback features If a DVD contains scenes that have been shot from different camera angles you can select these camera angles for playback. Additional playback features Subtitles [DVD] Many pre-recorded DVD discs have more than one subtitle language. The language initially selected for playback will be the one you selected when you first set up the DVD recorder. However you can change the subtitle language of the inserted disc at any time. You can change the subtitle language either using the menu of the inserted disc ( DISC MENU B button) or the menu bar ( SYSTEM MENU A button). The subtitle languages in the menus may differ.
Disc Manager (DM) The 'Disc Manager' is an integrated database in the DVD recorder that remembers all recordings on DVD+RW, DVD+R discs made by this DVD recorder. This gives you a complete overview of your entire video collection at the touch of a button. The Disc Manager gives you quick and easy access to every recording made on with this DVD recorder. The Disc Manager also tells you which film was recorded on which disc and how many unrecorded minutes remain on the discs.
Disc Manager (DM) 2 Press the DISC MANAGER Z button on the remote control. 3 Select 'Add current disc' using A I or B O and confirm with C M . 4 Confirm with OK L . P The disc number will be added to the Disc Manager. P The disc number is then displayed and the disc tray opens automatically. The disc is now stored in the Disc Manager under the displayed disc number. Please write this number on the disc and on the cover.
Disc Manager (DM) This function can be used to quickly and easily find and play back a recording saved in the Disc Manager. 1 Press DISC MANAGER Z on the remote control. 2 Select 'Find title' using B O or A I and confirm with C M . Playback from the HDD General O PLAY G R Playback will start at the position where it was interrupted in the selected title( STOP h N ). This also works if other titles or DVDs have been played in the meantime. 4 You can use the following buttons during playback: O NU, OV 9 The Media Browser Each recording stored on the HDD is displayed in the media browser with a corresponding index picture. To change the title settings, read the chapter 'Edit title HDD'.
Playback from the HDD Your may choose only titles that meet certain criteria for the overview. This order will remain until you exit the media browser. O 'Delete Order': Sorting according to the order of the automatic deletion. If there is too less space for new recordings on the HDD , this order shows which recordings will be automatically deleted first. 1 Press BROWSER HDD H on the remote control. P The Media Browser appears. 2 Press D K . P The 'Order Menu' appears.
Playback from the HDD The Time Shift Buffer 9 Navigation in the Time Shift Buffer As a result of the high data transfer speed of the HDD, it is possible to play back recordings from the Time Shift Buffer while the recording is still in process. Therefore, you can jump back to the currently selected TV programme using JUMP BACK T and watch a scene again.
Playback from the HDD - To start a recording that will be stored on the HDD. Please observe : If no data were available from the GUIDE Plus+® system, the recording will stop automatically after 30 minutes (OTR function). To make longer recordings, you have to press REC/OTR n 1 several times. You will see this also on an information on the screen. - To mark a title that will be stored on the HDD. - Hold button down to start the recording from the actual position.
Recording on the HDD General 9 The recoding mode Recordings on the HDD will be carried out in an adjustable recording quality, the so-called recording mode. The higher the quality, the greater the HDD space required. The recording quality is indicated as M1, M2, M2x, M3, M4, M6, and M8. The maximum possible recording time on the HDD depends from the recording mode and the average length of the recordings (titles). 'M1': approx. 32 hours 'M2': approx. 64 hours 'M2x': approx. 80 hours 'M3': approx.
Recording on the HDD To erase the Time Shift buffer choose from the following: O Erase the Time Shift Buffer manually ('Flush Buffer'function( SYSTEM MENU A button, 'Set O The preset Time Shift Buffer period expires (the default setting is 3 hours) O Switch to camcorder mode using CAM 3 (switch back with ENGLISH 9 Flush/erase the Time Shift Buffer the same function button) up'menu)) O Turn off the DVD recorder with STANDBY m 2 .
Recording on the HDD End recordings 9 Ending a recording automatically Recordings will be automatically ended if data from the GUIDE Plus+® is available or if you entered the end while starting a recording (30-minute steps). 9 Ending a recording at the live position 1 If necessary, switch the TV to the programme number (input socket) of the DVD recorder. 2 Press STOP h N . P A message appears on the screen, asking whether you really want to end the recording.
Recording on the HDD O Freely selectable end: - Press REC/OTR n 1 to select the entire title. The colour changes to red. - Search for the desired end using D K , C M . - Hold down the red button D : Red marked recording changes to its original colour from the current position to the end of the title. If you want to set more markers in one title, start marking at the begin of the title. O Freely selectable beginning: - Search for the desired beginning using D K , C M . - Hold down the REC/OTR n 1 button.
Recording on the HDD O PAUSE 9 Q The recording will be paused. If you press the button again, the recording will resume. A chapter marker is inserted. A new title is created. 6 To end the camcorder operating mode press CAM 3 P The recording will be stored on the HDD as a new title. O STOP h N The recording will be interrupted. You can start a new recording by pressing REC/OTR n 1 .
Recording on the HDD 3 To stop the recording press STANDBY m 2 and then STOP h N . P A message appears on the screen, asking whether you really want to end the recording. O If you want to end the recording, select 'Yes' with D K and confirm with OK L . O If you do not want to end the recording, confirm 'No' using OK L . 4 To get full access to the edit functions of the title, you have to erase the Time Shift Buffer.
Recording on the HDD Automatic recording from a satellite receiver (sat recording) 3 Select 'Preferences' with B O . 4 Press C M to select 'Recording'. 5 Select 'Sat record' (second menu page) using B O . 6 Select 'On' using C M . O To switch off the function, select 'Off' using C M . 7 To end, press SYSTEM MENU A . 8 Connect the EXT2 AUX-I/O M scart socket of the DVD recorder with the corresponding scart socket of the satellite receiver using a scart cable.
Recording on a DVD+RW, DVD+R 9 Discs you can use DVD+RW (Digital Versatile Disc + rewriteable) This disc is rewriteable. That means, you can delete your recordings an use the disc again and again. More than 1000 times. DVD+RW discs can be used without finalising procedure in the most existing and future DVD-Players. DVD+R (Digital Versatile Disc + recordable) Unlike a DVD+RW disc, this disc can only be written to once. If it is not finalised after a recording, further recordings can be added to it.

Finalising a DVD+R If recordings were stored (archived) on a DVD+R you have to finalise it to make play back in a DVD-Player possible. 3 Press C M and select then the line 'Finalise disc' using B O . 4 Confirm with OK L . 1 Press DISC MENU B and then STOP h N to mark the first title. 2 Press A I to go to the 'disc info screen'. Protect disc against accidental recordings To prevent an accidental erasing of important recordings, you can protect the entire disc.

Access control (Child Lock) Parental level control [DVD] Films on pre-recorded DVD discs may contain scenes not suitable for children. Therefore, some discs may contain 'Parental Control' rating information that applies to the entire disc or to certain scenes on the disc. The appropriate scenes have filter values that reach from 1-8. If such a scene is detected during playback, the filter value set on the DVD recorder is compared to the scene.

MAX CHAP The maximum number of chapters within a title/or the disc has been reached. The maximum number of chapters is: DVD+RW, DVD+R: within a title 99, on the disc 255 (spreaded over the whole disc). HDD: within a title 500, on the HDD 1000 (spreaded over the whole HDD). DISC ERROR An error occurred when reading the title from a DVD+RW, DVD+R. If this error keeps occurring, please clean the disc or use a new one.
