The sealing ring
may be stuck under
the edge of the
distribution disk.
Check if the sealing ring is stuck
under the edge of the distribution
disk. If it is, pull it out from under the
distribution disk carefully.
Water drops on the
worktop may be
the result of placing
the water reservoir
or removing used
coee pods.
Check if the water drops on the
worktop are not the result of placing
or removing the water reservoir or
removing used coee pods. Make
sure that you do not remove the water
reservoir when the coee machine
is heating up. This may cause water
that normally ends up in the water
reservoir to leak out of the machine.
In all other cases, contact the

Flush before rst use
Flush the machine before rst use. After the ushing cycle (which only takes
approx. 2 minutes), the machine is ready for brewing coee.
Intensity Select (HD6556, HD6555, HD6554)
It is possible to brew even shorter stronger cups of coee by double pressing the
1-cup or 2-cup button.
Special coees
To brew a special coee, place a cappuccino pod, a hot chocolate pod or
another special coee pod in the 2-cup pod holder and press the 1-cup button.
2x descaling, 2x rinsing
Descale the machine at least every 3 months. Use liquid SENSEO® descaler only. The
descaling procedure consists of two descaling cycles and two ushing cycles. Each
cycle lasts 5 minutes. Fill a jug with 1 liter of water, pour one half of the bottle in the jug
and then pour the descaling mixture in the water reservoir. Press the 2-cup button
several times until all descaling mixture is used up. You have to use 1 jug of descaling
mixture for each descaling cycle. Use the 1-cup pod holder with a used pod or the
thin descaling lter during the rst descaling cycle and use the 2-cup pod holder with
a used pod or the thick descaling lter during the second descaling cycle. Fill the
water reservoir with fresh water and press the 2-cup button several times until the
water reservoir is empty. Repeat this for the second ushing cycle. Do not interrupt
the descaling cycles and do not switch o the machine before you have performed
the two ushing cycles. Throw used pods or descaling lters away after use. For more
information on why it is important to descale, when to descale and how to descale or
which descaler to use, visit our website at www.philips.com/descale-senseo.

SENSEO®-Kaeepads bleiben

You did not ush the

The indicator light

There is not enough
water in the water
reservoir
Fill the water reservoir and make
sure you place the water reservoir
properly into the machine.
The oat in the water
reservoir may be
stuck.
Empty the water reservoir and shake
it a few times to release the oat.
Clean the water reservoir with hot
water and some washing-up liquid or
in the dishwasher.
The coee is not
hot enough.
You need to descale
the machine.
Descale the machine according to
the instructions.
The coee
temperature in
the cup decreases
quickly.
Do not use cups that
are too large.
Use thin-walled cups.
Thin-walled cups absorb
less heat from the coee than
thick-walled cups.
You can preheat the coee machine
and cup by brewing a cup of hot
water rst without placing a coee
pod in the pod holder.
Intensity select:
after pressing
the coee button
twice, I do not get
a stronger coee.
You have pressed
the coee button
twice too fast or you
have waited longer
than 3 seconds after
pressing the button
for the rst time.
Pressing the coee button twice
to get a stronger coee is possible
within a time frame of 3 seconds.
The LED light on the machine will
shine less bright if the programming
was successful.
I cannot open
the lid.
A temporary vacuum
has developed under
the lid.
Switch o the coee machine. Pull
up the lever and wait
24 hours before you open the lid.
You may need to use some force.
Always make sure the pod holders
are clean and the sieve is not
clogged to prevent a vacuum.
The coee
machine produces
less coee than
before.
Perhaps the sieve in
the center of the pod
holder is clogged.
If the sieve is clogged, use a
washing-up brush to unclog
the sieve. If you cannot unclog
it properly with the washing-up
brush, put the pod holder in the
machine and descale the machine
according to the instructions.
Perhaps you have
pressed the 1 or
2-cup button twice.
This machine has Intensity Select. If
you press the button twice, you get
a smaller cup of stronger coee.
I cannot close the
lid properly.
Perhaps a used
coee pod is
sticking to the water
distribution disk.
If this is the case, remove the used
pod.
The coee is not
strong enough.
You may not have
used the right number
of pods or may have
pressed the wrong
button.
Use 1 pod in combination with the
1-cup pod holder and the 1-cup
button. Use 2 pods in combination
with the 2-cup pod holder and the
2-cup button.
The pod(s) may not
have been placed
in the pod holder
properly.
Place the coee pod(s) properly
in the center of the pod holder, to
prevent water from escaping along
the edge of the pod(s). When you use
two coee pods on top of each other,
make sure that the convex sides of
both pods point downwards and
press the pods lightly into the pod
holder. Make sure that the coee in
the pod is distributed evenly.
You may have used
the same pod twice.
Place a new pod in the pod holder to
brew a fresh cup of coee.
Perhaps you need a
dierent avor.
If you prefer a more robust avor,
SENSEO® coee pods with a
stronger blend are available.
HD6554, HD6555,
HD6556: Use
intensity select.
Press the button twice to brew
one or two small cups of stronger
coee.
The coee is too
strong.
Perhaps you need a
dierent avor.
If you prefer a milder avor,
SENSEO® coee pods with a milder
blend are available.
Perhaps you pressed
the 1-cup or 2-cup
button twice.
This machine has Intensity Select. If
you press the button twice, you get
a smaller cup of stronger coee.
Water leaks
from the coee
machine.

the lid properly.

as shown in the instructions.
You overlled the
water reservoir.
Do not ll the water reservoir
beyond the MAX level.
The sieve in the
center of the pod
holder may be
clogged.
Check the pod holder. If the sieve is
clogged, use a washing-up brush to
unclog the sieve. If you cannot clean
it properly with the washing-up brush,
put the pod holder in the machine
and descale the machine according to
the instructions.
