3 Get started Always follow the instructions in this chapter in sequence. Connect speakers To insert each speaker wire: 1 2 3 Hold down the socket flap. Insert the speaker wire fully. Release the socket flap. Connect power Caution •• Risk of product damage! Make sure that the power supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the back of the micro system. •• Before connecting the AC power cord, make sure that you have completed all other connections.
3 Close the battery compartment. Turn on Press POWER. »» The micro system switches to the last selected source. Switch to standby mode Note •• Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be disposed of properly. Press POWER to switch the system to standby mode. »» The backlight on the display panel is dimmed. »» The clock (if set) appears on the display panel. 4 Play Repeat play 1 Play a disc Note •• Make sure that the disc contains playable audio content. 1 On the top panel, pull up to open the disc compartment. 2 Insert a disc with the printed side facing up, then close the disc compartment. 2 During play, select a repeat play mode: • To play the current track repeatedly, press REPEAT on the main unit. • To play all tracks repeatedly, press REP ALL on the remote control. To return to normal play, press REPEAT or REP ALL again.
• Play a tape • the AUX socket on the micro system, and the headphone socket on an external device. AUX PULL TO OPEN 1 2 3 4 5 2 3 Press TAPE to select the tape source. On the front panel, pull at the PULL TO OPEN position to open the tape button cover. Press to open the tape door. Load a tape with the open side downward, and then close the tape door. 5 Listen to radio Tune to an FM/AM radio station Tip Program radio stations manually Note •• You can program a maximum of 40 preset radio stations. •• To overwrite a programmed radio station, store another station in its place. •• For better reception, fully extend and adjust the position of the antenna. 1 2 3 Press TUN to select radio source. 6 Other features Set the alarm timer This micro system can be used as an alarm clock. You can select the disc or tuner as alarm source. •• Make sure that you have set the clock correctly. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 This micro system can switch to standby mode automatically after a set period of time. When the system is turned on, press SLEEP repeatedly to select a preset period (in minutes). »» When the sleep timer is activated, is displayed.

Clean the disc lens • After prolonged use, dirt or dust may accumulate at the disc lens. To ensure good play quality, clean the disc lens with Philips CD lens cleaner or any commercially available cleaner. Follow the instructions supplied with cleaner. Clean the heads and the tape paths • To ensure good play quality, clean the heads A, the capstan(s) B, and pressure roller(s) C after every 50 hours of tape operation. • Use a cotton swab slightly moistened with cleaning fluid or alcohol.
8 Troubleshooting Warning •• Never remove the casing of this product. To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the product yourself. If you encounter problems when using this device, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the Philips Web page (www. philips.com/support).
