Wireless Studio System Controller Operator’s Manual PLCPTR-2 Hardware & PLIBM-2 Software
Requirements: 1. Use only with Photogenic DR (Digital Remote) PowerLights. 2. Each Photogenic DR PowerLight must have a PLDIR-2 accessory Display, which contains an infrared receiver to operate with this system. 3. Use with IBM type PC (personal computer) with CD-ROM drive and available serial (COM) port. 4. PC must have Microsoft Windows ‘95, or later version software. Packaged Components: (PLCPTR-2) 1. 1 ea PLTRD-2, Infrared Transmitter 2. 1 ea PLTRPS, AC power adapter 3.
Hardware Installation: 1. Attach one end of supplied PLX-5 phone cable to PLPA adapter connector. 2. Attach other end of supplied PLX-5 phone cable to the communication port of the PLTRD-2 Infrared Transmitter. 3. Attach small plug of PLTRPS AC power adapter to PLTRD Infrared Transmitter. (DO NOT plug in to AC power, yet.) 4. Attach adapter connector to open serial (COM) port on computer. Secure with attached screws. 5. Attach PLTRPS AC power adapter to AC power outlet. 6.
FILE: 1. NEW will open a new file for you to construct your studio light setup. 2. OPEN will allow you to open existing studio setup files. 3. SAVE will allow you to save an open studio file. 4. SAVE AS will allow you to create or change the names of your files. 5. PRINT will allow you to print the narrative description of your light setups. 6. EXIT will allow you to close the file and program. UNIT SELECT Displays PowerLights 1 through 9.
COM PORT: Displays the current communication setting. The maximum speed can be set either to 9600 or 57600. When using the PLTRD to communicate with the lights, the maximum rate must be set at 9600 bps. Com port selection can be from Com 1 - Com 4. WINDOW: Allows you to choose the format of light panel display you want on the screen. By clicking the top number bar, this activates each individual light control panel. You can drag-and-drop each panel into a location you wish.
HELP: Help contains an explanation of software functions and keys on the window panels. ALL UNITS TOOLBAR: This bar will control the operational change for every active PowerLight you have assigned to the Studio Control System. STANDBY ON will place all the Powerlights into the standby mode and they will not flash. STANDBY OFF will wake-up all the units and make them operational for flash. MINUS .5f will bracket all the units down one-half stop. MINUS .1f will bracket all the units down one-tenth stop.
Set up your PowerLight Display: This version of the Photogenic Studio Control software will work with the following PowerLight models: PL300DR, PLR300DR, PL1250DR, PL1250DRG, PLR1250DR, PLX1250DR, PL2500DR, PL2500DRG, PLR2500DR, PLX2500DR, PL500DR, PLR500DR, PLX500DR, PL1000DR, PLR1000DR and PLX1000DR. The PL500DR, PLX500DR, PL1000DR and PLX1000DR are constant color monolights with an 8 f-stop range. They also have a built in misfire alarm and an Auto Bracket mode.
Setting the Flash Power. The flash output is numerically displayed in watt seconds and can be adjusted three ways: • Use the large “+” or large “-” buttons to change the power level by 1/2 stop. • Use the small “+” or large “-” buttons to change the power level by 1/10 stop. • Type your desired power settings in the settings box. Other flash button functions. • The Flash Ind. button will turn the model light flash indication function on or off for this individual light unit.
Setting the Modeling Lamp Power. The modeling lamp intensity for all of the PL300DR, PL1250DR and PL2500DR units is displayed in watts, using the factory-supplied 250-watt lamp values. For the PL500DR and PL1000DR units, the modeling lamp intensity is displayed in the percentage of light output. Each can be adjusted in three ways: 1. Click the Manual Button. • Use the large “+” or “-” to adjust the modeling light in 1/2 stop increments or decrements.
3. Click the Full On/Off Button. Model Light Full On mode Model Light Full Off mode Remember: The modeling values are shown in watts for the PL300DR, PL1250DR and PL2500DR PowerLight models and shown in % of light output for the PL500DR and PL1000DR models. • To turn on the model light Full On or Off from the Tracking or Manual modes, push the Full On/Off key. The first push will turn the Modeling light to Full On. To turn the Modeling light off, push the Full On key and it will be turned off.
