Barndoor Mounting Board Installation Instructions
Tools & Hardware Needed
You will need a Pencil, Phillips head screwdriver, tape measure, Drill, Drill bits, Stud Finder
Squaring tool, 4ft Level, and Safety glasses. 3” deck screws or lag bolts

Installation
Identify and mark the location of the wall studs to which the
mounting board will be secured.
Using the level and square, position the bottom of the
mounting board by measuring up from the door height (H) +
desired clearance off the floor. If using a 80” standard
height door, you may need to remove the door header cas-
ing and cut the side casing horizontally along the predeter-
mined height of the bottom of the mounting board.
Determine the vertical centerline (V) of the barn door rail
and use this certerline to position the center of the mounting
board. Locate the mounting board on the wall, mark and
predrill a 1/8” pilot hole through the mounting board at the
location of the wall studs.
S ecure the mounting board to wall studs with 3” deck screws driven slightly below the surface of
the wood. This will be holding a lot of weight, so make sure there is good contact with the studs
when installing the mounting board. If you prefer, using lag bolts will ensure a secure base to in-
stall your track system. Locating the board mounting screws behind the position of the barndoor
rail will help hide these indentions.
Fill the screw heads with wood filler and paint the mounting board to match or compliment the wall
color. For the unfinished oak board, be sure to use a stainable putty for patching. Your oak board
can then be stained to match the door and/or trim. See additional finishing tips below.
When mounting the hardware rail, be sure to mark each hole and predrill a pilot hole 1/8” smaller
than the diameter of the rail mounting screws.
Finishing Tips
It is often desirable that the board be painted or stained prior to installation and then finished with a
touch up coat following installation prior to mounting hardware..
Please note that primed boards have been professionally touched up to cover surface blemishes
and are prepared to receive your finish color application. The primer is not a finish application.
For matching stain finishes from the oak mounting board to a door of alternate species, an initial
application of a pre-stain wood conditioner can be very beneficial. Your Home Depot paint
specialist can provide additional helpful tips and advice.
