10 Additional information Chapter 10 Additional information Taking care of your player and discs Handling discs When holding discs of any type, take care not to leave fingerprints, dirt or scratches on the disc surface. Hold the disc by its edge or by the center hole and edge. Damaged or dirty discs can affect playback performance. Take care also not to scratch the label side of the disc. Although not as fragile as the recorded side, scratches can still result in a disc becoming unusable.
10 Additional information Discs to avoid Cleaning the pickup lens Discs spin at high speed inside the player. If you can see that a disc is cracked, chipped, warped, or otherwise damaged, don't risk using it in your player—you could end up damaging it. The DVD player’s lens should not become dirty in normal use, but if for some reason it should malfunction due to dust or dirt, consult your nearest Pioneer-authorized service center.
10 Additional information • Place directly on top of an amplifier, or other component in your stereo system that becomes hot in use. Screen sizes and disc formats • Use near a television or monitor as you may experience interference—especially if the television uses an indoor antenna. DVD-Video discs come in several different screen aspect ratios, ranging from TV programs, which are generally 4:3, to CinemaScope widescreen movies, with an aspect ratio of up to about 7:3.
10 Additional information Set to 4:3 (Pan&Scan), widescreen discs are shown with the left and right sides cropped. Although the picture looks larger, you don’t actually see the whole picture. Titles, chapters and tracks DVD discs are generally divided into one or more titles. Titles may be further subdivided into chapters.
