u About EtherCAT
Industrial Ethernet main communication protocol types:
EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, Ethernet PowerLink, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, SynqNet,
CAN, and SerCos
EtherCAT (Ethernet for Control Automation Technology) was proposed by Beckhoff in
Germany in 2003 based on the Ethernet bus concept (Fieldbus System).
1. Cost reduction: A network interface card commonly found on the market can be
used in the master unit for Ethernet network connection; there’s no need to purchase
an additional hardware equipment for that purpose. The Cat 5e twisted-pair cable
can be used for transmission.
2. Fast communication transmission: If the full-duplex mode is adopted, the
transmission speed is 100Mbps, while 256 digital I/O signals can be processed in
11µs, and 1000 digital I/O signals can be processed in 30µs.
3. Excellent synchronization performance: Using distributed clocks can synchronize
multi-axes with less than 1µs of jitter.
4. Flexible topology: Any topology can be used, including line type, tree type, star
type, etc.
5. Improved security: The ring topology offers the reliability of networks.
