OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
OPERATION WITH THE COOKING GRID
1. The cooking grid should only be utilized when the re pit is being used for cooking.
2. The gas control knob must be in the O (OFF) position when utilizing the cooking grid.
3. When cooking with oil or grease, have a BC or ABC re extinguisher readily available.
4. In the event of an oil or grease re, do not attempt to extinguish with water. Immediately call the
re department. A type BC or ABC re extinguisher may, in some circumstances contain the re.
5. In the event of rain, snow, hail, sleet or other forms of precipitation while cooking with oil or grease,
turn off the re pit burner and gas supply. Do not attempt to move the re pit.
6. When cooking, the appliance must be on a level, stable, noncombustible surface in an area clear
of combustible material. An asphalt surface (blacktop) may not be acceptable for this purpose.
7. Do not leave the re pit unattended. Keep children and pets away from the re pit at all times.
8. This re pit will be hot during and after use. Use insulated oven mitts or gloves for protection from
hot surfaces or splatter from cooking liquids.
WARNING: Do not use re pit for cooking or warming food when the wood is still burning with
ames.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
To enjoy years of outstanding performance from your re pit, make sure you perform the following
maintenance activities on a regular basis:
Keep exterior surfaces clean.
1. Use warm soapy water for cleaning. Never use ammable or corrosive cleaning agents.
2. While cleaning your re pit, be sure to keep the area around the burner dry at all times. Do not
submerge the control valve assembly. If the gas control is submerged in water, do NOT use it.
It must be replaced.
a. Keep the appliance area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other
ammable vapors and liquids.
b. Do not obstruct the ow of combustion and ventilation air.
c. Keep the ventilation opening(s) of the cylinder enclosure free and clear from debris.
3. Air ow must be unobstructed. Keep starter’s control, burner, and circulating air passageways clean.
Signs of possible blockage include:
• Gas odor with extreme yellow tipping of ame.
• Starter’s ame is excessively uneven.
• Starter makes popping noises.
• Spiders and insects or ashes can nest in burner or orice. This dangerous condition can
damage starter and render it unsafe for use. Clean the burner area by removing any
debris. Compressed air may help clear away smaller particles.
• Carbon deposits may create re hazard. Clean the burner box with warm soapy water if any
carbon deposits develop.
CAUTION: Only a qualied service person should repair gas passages and associated components.
Always allow re pit to cool before attempting service.

Never Operate This Appliance Unattended. Failure to follow this danger statement could result in
re, explosion or burn hazard that could cause property damage, personal injury or death. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO EXTINGUISH AN OIL OR GREASE FIRE WITH WATER.
