DeFender™ XC Full
Length Side Plates

DeFender™ XC Full Length Side Plates

(1) 5/16-18 X 2 Gr5 Hex Head Cap Screw
(2) 5/16” SAE Hardened Flat Washer
(1) 3/8-16 X 1-1/8 Coupling Nut
(1) 5/16-18 Nut-Sert
TOOLS NEEDED
• 3/16” Hex key
• 1/2” End wrench or socket & ratchet
• Drill motor with 5/16” & 17/32” drill bits
• Thread anti-seize compound
• Optional: Pro nut-sert install tool
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
These instructions assume the Poison Spyder
DeFenders™ have already been installed. If Poison
Spyder Rocker Knockers™, Ricochet Rockers™ or
other manufacturer’s rocker armor is to be used, make
sure it is already installed as well.
It is recommended to paint or powder-coat the
DeFender Full Length Side Plates AFTER the
initial installation, (remove them after installation is
complete, paint or powder-coat them, then re-install)
so that the drilling and handling of the parts during
initial installation does not damage the nish.
1. Place Full Length Side Plate against the side of the
previously-installed DeFender™, and loosely install seven
(7) of the supplied SS flat head cap screws, with nyloc
nuts, in the triangular forward section of the Side Plate
that overlaps the DeFender™. Leave these fasteners barely
snugged, so that the position of the Side Plate may still be
slightly adjusted.
2. Check the positioning of the Side Plate in relation to
the top of the Rocker Knockers™ or other rocker armor (if
present), and the top of the DeFender. There will be some
room for adjustment. You may wish to align the Side Plate
very close to the top of the rocker armor, or to split the
difference between the top of the rocker armor and the top
of the DeFender. Once it is positioned how you like it best,
further tighten the hardware installed in the previous step.
3. Use the drill motor with 5/16” drill bit to drill the
remaining five (5) holes through the side of the Jeep’s tub,
using the Side Plate as your drill guide. Be careful to only
drill through the outer sheetmetal. There is an inner panel
that you need not drill through.
4. Remove the Side Plate from the Jeep.
5. Use the drill motor with the 17/32” drill bit to open
each of the previously drilled holes up to their final size.
Be careful not to let the bit wander or snag.
6. Install a 5/16-18 nut-sert into each of the holes
that were drilled out to 17/32”.
