6. CALORIE CALCULATION
Polar E40 can also measure calorie expenditure during
the exercise session. The function is off as default but
can be turned on with the UpLink Tool, or by setting
the student’s personal information (i.e. weight, height,
age and gender) in the wrist unit. To measure calories
correctly, set the student’s personal data as accurately
as possible. Using the UpLink Tool, calorie calculation
can be turned off again.
When calorie calculation is on, the calorie information
is displayed during exercise and saved for later study.
Calories are displayed in Cal or kcal depending on the
unit setting.
Calorie consumption is calculated in a similar manner
for children and adults. The higher the heart rate and
activity intensity, the more calories are expended.
During exercise:
Accumulated exercise calories are shown
on the upper row.
In Summary file after exercise:
Calories expended during the exercise
session are shown in the summary file.
The total calorie expenditure can be seen in Totals file.
