important performance & safety tips
WARNING: listen carefully
Polk headphones are capable of playing at extremely high volume levels, which could cause serious
or permanent hearing damage. Polk, Inc. accepts no liability for hearing loss, bodily injury or property
damage resulting from the misuse of its products. Besides, we want you to keep your hearing
so you’ll buy more Polk products.
enjoy your Polk headphones responsibly
It’s a very bad idea, and in many jurisdictions against the law, to operate a vehicle while
wearing headphones. Crossing streets without being able to hear what’s going on around
you can be danger-ous as well. Use your good common sense and never play headphones
in an environment, or during an activity, that requires your complete attention. The sounds
you hear around you could save your life.
how loud is too loud?
Polk headphones are capable of reproducing excellent musical detail, even at lower volume
levels. You should limit prolonged exposure to volumes that exceed 85 decibels (dB). Regular
exposure to sound over 100 dB for more than 1 minute risks permanent hearing loss.
For more about safe volume levels, go to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(OSHA) guidelines at www.osha.gov.
eartip selection
in-ear headphone
Eartips do more than help your headphones stay in place. Properly fitted eartips help you to eliminate
extraneous noise, experience greater bass response and enjoy better tonal balance. Eartips that fit
correctly also feel comfortable. A good fit sounds easy to achieve, and it is. But no two person’s ears
are exactly the same. So we’ve included eartips of different sizes and designs to ensure your in-ear
headphones sit securely and comfortably while optimizing their performance. The way to discover
which eartips work best for you is to try your headphones with all of them. Start first with the small
eartips, then try the next largest pair and so on. You want a comfortable fit with a good seal so the
headphone won’t fall from your ear.
hint: Don’t be afraid to use different eartips in each ear. No two ears are exactly the same size.
connect your headphones
listen
But first…turn down the volume on your music player before inserting your headphones.
Plug the headphone cable into the 1/8" (3.5 mm) stereo jack on your music player.
important: Headphones have a left and right orientation. They use the markings “L” and “R” to
indicate which earpiece goes in which ear. You can also use the cable colors to determine left and
right orientation. The colored cable is always the left earpiece; the black or white cable is always
the right earpiece.
care & storage
how to clean eartips & headphones
important: Always remove the eartips from your headphones before cleaning them and thoroughly
dry them before putting them back onto the headphone. Use a damp cloth to clean the headphone.
DO NOT get any liquid in the headphone.
Use warm water and a mild dish soap on a damp cloth to remove dirt and earwax from the
eartip. DO NOT use harsh cleaning agents. Make sure the eartips are completely dry before
putting them back on the headphones. Also, when you put the eartips on the headphones,
make sure they seat completely.
storing your headphones
Store your headphones in their protective case. Store the case in a clean, dry environment.
DO NOT expose your headphones to extreme heat or cold, high humidity or liquids. It’s a really
bad idea to pull on the headphone cable to remove the earpieces from your ears or the plug
from your player. Don’t do it.
