9. PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL PROPERTIES (Continued)
SENSITIZATION TO THE PRODUCT: A double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over challenge study of the allergenicity of
hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated, and cold-pressed soya bean oils was conducted in a group of seven individuals who had
experienced allergic reactions after exposures that had occurred up to 10 years previously. All had positive reactions to a skin-prick
test with soya bean extract. Other data exists that respiratory sensitization and allergic reaction to Soy Bean Oil can occur, especially if
a person has been exposed to dusts from soy products previously.
REPRODUCTIVE TOXICITY INFORMATION: No specific information on human mutagenic, embryotoxic, teratogenic or
reproductive toxicity effects is available for this product. The following data is available for some components.
Mutagenicity: Soybean Oil was tested for genotoxicity in the Drosophila wing somatic mutation and recombination assay. Results indicate that the
oil produces genotoxic effects when tested without any previous frying or boiling processes. No data are available related to possible mutagenic
effects on human cells.
