Articulations
To enter articulations during step-time, use the relevent shortcut before you enter the pitch, e.g. 1 for staccato. To clear
your next note of any articulation, press = (equals).
Voices
If desired, you can change the voice during step-time. Press Alt+x where x is the voice number from 1 to 4 to
switch between voices.
Tuplets
To enter triplets and other tuplets. you complete four steps:
1. Specify the base time value (such as e for a group of eighth notes or q for a group of quarter notes).
2. Specify the type of tuplet you want. Hold down the Alt key as you press one of the following digits:
> 2 = duplet.
> 3 = triplet.
> 4 = quadruplet.
> 5 = quintuplet.
> 6 = sextuplet.
> 7 = septuplet.
> 8 = octuplet.
> 9 = nonuplet.
3. Enter the notation for the tuplet. Since you are in a tuplet entry mode you can Enter a complex tuplet. For example,
let’s say you set up a triplet of eighth notes (by pressign e then Alt+3). At a point you want to Enter a quarter note
instead of an eighth note, just press q. Your next entry will be a quarter note inside that eighth-note triplet.
4. End the tuplet entry mode. Otherwise, Notion will continue to create additional tuplets for you. To end this mode of
entry, press either Alt+0 (zero) or Alt+1
Repitch existing durations with Step-Time
If you’re happy with your rhythmic durations, and only want to replace the pitch, you can use step-time for this. Place
the cursor at the start of the notes you wish to repitch, then go into Step-Time mode. Use any of the note entry methods
above to replace the pitches (e.g. MIDI keyboard, onscreen keyboard, QWERTY pitches). When you’ve nished, exit Step-
time. You can skip over rests using the left and right arrow keys.
(You can also change the durations without changing the pitch too! Make a selection of notes, then hit equals followed
by the shortcut of the duration you want. So to change a group of eighth notes and rests to sixteenth notes, make a
selection, then = s )
Exit Step-Time
Whenever you want to end this mode of operation, press the Esc key or click the button in the Transport.
