Notion can now transfer audio and note data with Studio One in both directions. Studio One is the award winning DAW
(digital audio workstation) from PreSonus. You can either create new documents after transfer, or update data back into
existing documents.
Studio One v4, for Windows and macOS
(For realtime connection, you can use ReWire for both MIDI and audio streaming between Studio One and Notion - see
chapter 9.14)
Versions
You need at least Studio One 3.3 and Notion 6 for basic data transferring - for complete functionality outlined below
however (including the import of e.g. chords and key signatures), you will need to have Studio One 4 and Notion 6.4
installed.
Anywhere on the network
Notion and Studio One don’t need to be on the same machine! Notion now supports UCNET, PreSonus’ network protocol,
which means that not only can you transfer between applications on the same machine, but applications anywhere on
the same network. Whether you have two computers at home, or in the studio, or wanting to transfer documents in the
school music lab, this is a really useful tool. The transfer works across platforms too (e.g. from Notion on Mac to Studio
One on Windows).
If you don’t want want Notion to be discoverable by other PreSonus software on the network, then go to Preferences, and
uncheck ‘Allow Network Discovery’. For more connection FAQ’s, see below at the end of this chapter.
Powerful Workows
There are now some powerful workows available between DAW and Score
- Create a leadsheet from Studio One’s Chord Track with a few clicks on the y - all neatly formatted and transposed
automatically, a great time saver when you are mid-session
- Use Studio One’s Chord and key recognition along with Melodyne’s tempo and time signature analysis tools. Then send it
all across to Notion along with a audio mixdown, to get transcribing fast.
- Get your stems from your Notion project across to Studio One for nal mix and mastering with 2 clicks. Updated your
original? Then send again, and it will merge into your existing Studio One project.
- Compose in notation software, then send notes across to Studio One for Piano roll view style editing
- Got your VST instruments sounding just right? It will send and load your VST, and any parameters you may changed!
