j) Dynamic >= – asks if the dynamic is greater than or equal to a dynamic value
k) Dynamic <= – asks if the dynamic is less than or equal to a dynamic value
l) Flag – a ag is a user dened four letter string that will ask the “If…?” later in the rule set. This is one of the most
valuable concepts in editing a ruleset. Once a ag has been assigned, it can be called upon as often as you like
throughout your ruleset. This provides great control in your rulesets to make actions perform dierent actions for
dierent conditions.
m) Not Flag – asks if a ag is not used. You can remove certain agged conditions from subsequent rules in your ruleset.
n) Is Ghost – asks if the note in the Score is a Ghost Note. You can set this to True or False
o) MIDI Channel is – asks the output from Notion if MIDI is being transmitted over a specic MIDI Channel
p) Note Symbol is – asks if a note symbol is being used
q) Pitch is – asks if a specic Pitch is being played through Notion
r) String is – asks if the score has a dened string that a stringed instrument is playing on
s) Technique is on – asks if a certain playback technique for a particular instrument is turned on in the score. Techniques
are instrument based and can usually be found in the palette for a particular instrument. A full list follows on the next
page. Examples for this are “con sordino”, “pizzicato”, or “tremolo”. There are many techniques in the list and each
instrument has its own valuable set. You can also enter these using the Express Entry Tool, which can be called upon by
pressing the apostrophe key ‘ on your computer keyboard. Then, start typing the name of your technique.
t) Technique is not – asks if a certain playback technique is not turned on in a score
u) No techniques - asks if there are no techniques on a note
v) User technique - asks if a particular custom user techniques is set. These custom expressions are created and saved in
the xml le that is part of a library preset - this is for situations where a technique required by a library, is not found by
default in Notion (see over page for full list of techniques). You then set the playback rules of the expression using the
‘User technique’ condition. Once saved, they can be quickly recalled and added to the score from the on-screen
techniques palette.
