7.2.4 Audio Device, Networking, and Sample Rate
Audio Device and Sample Rate
Capture 2 was created for use with PreSonus StudioLive-series mixers and
fully functions only with them. The Audio Device menu displays the currently
selected audio driver. When a StudioLive is connected to your computer
via FireWire, you should select “PreSonus” from the Audio Device list.
Power User Tip: If the currently selected audio device has exactly two outputs (as
with the built-in audio card in a Mac), Capture goes into Stereo mode. While in Stereo
mode, Capture connects all tracks to the stereo output and adjusts the volume of
the output automatically to account for stereo summing. Stereo mode enables
you to listen to Sessions while away from your StudioLive. Unless the StudioLive’s
driver is selected, you cannot create a new Session or record new audio.
While in Stereo mode, a level control appears at the top of the track list in Capture so
that you can adjust the level of the stereo mix.
Sample Rate. The Sample Rate menu displays the currently configured
sample rate. Note: Your StudioLive AI mixer is the master clock. You
must set the sample rate on your mixer rather than inside of the
application. See Section 5.5 in the StudioLive AI Mixers Owner’s Manual
for more information on setting the sample rate on your mixer.
Networking
Like VSL-AI, Capture can communicate with your StudioLive AI-series mixer over
a wireless or wired LAN network. Networking Capture with your StudioLive AI
mixer allows you to remotely store and recall scenes from Capture; read and
write channel labels between Capture, VSL-AI, and the StudioLive Channel Info
page; and remotely enable digital returns for a quick virtual soundcheck.
Once you have connected your computer to your StudioLive
network following the instructions in Section 3.2, you must connect
Capture to the same network by doing the following:
1. Click on the link below the Audio Device menu to scan the network for available
StudioLive mixers.
2. This will open the network browser and allow you to connect to your
StudioLive mixer so that you can control it from Capture. If you do not
want Capture to remote control your mixer, select “None.
3. After you have selected your StudioLive mixer, click ok.
