Dolby Laboratories does not provide a precise specification, however the red box on the plot shows

the minimum eye region specified by the IEC60958 standard, into which the eye pattern should not

transgress if reliable reception is to be guaranteed.

Description

This test measures the worst-case peak

jitter

of the

EUT

's digital output carrier, and also displays the

spectrum of the jitter. Excessive jitter can lead to the output data being irrecoverable by a receiving

device. Even moderate jitter can result in degraded audio performance in a subsequent D/A

converter if its design is inadequate in rejecting the incoming jitter from its sampling clock.
