Delete your device data with a factory reset
Before you switch to a new device or give away your current device, you should delete your data. A factory reset is designed
to delete all of the data on your device permanently so that it can't be recovered. The permanently deleted data includes
email accounts, downloaded apps, media files, documents, browser bookmarks, and settings.
Important: If you delete your device data in any other way, for example, by entering the screen lock incorrectly ten times,
when your device restarts, it will not work again until you enter your Google
™
account credentials. After a factory reset, you
do not need to enter your Google
™
account credentials.
1. Swipe down from the top of the screen once using two fingers, or twice using one finger.
2.
Tap > Backup & reset.
3. Tap Factory data reset > Reset phone.
4. If necessary, enter your screen lock.
5. When prompted, tap Erase everything.
I can't get out of safe mode
To get out of safe mode, press and hold the Power
on/o key (on the left side of your device). Tap Restart.
Update your device software
Updating your device software to the latest version can help your device stay secure and run as expected.
You can either update your device software when a notification appears or update your device software manually.
Do one of the following:
• To update your device software when a notification appears, swipe down from the top of the screen with one finger. On
the System update notification, tap Install.
• To update your device software manually, swipe down from the top of the screen once using two fingers, or twice using
one finger. Tap > About phone > System updates > Check for updates, and, if an update is available, then tap
Restart & install.
Note:
Major updates can take time to download and install and require that you restart your device. To help prevent issues,
keep your device connected to a power source and a reliable Wi-Fi network while the update is in progress.
