19. Never leave the treadmill unattended while it is running. Always remove the key, unplug the power cord, and press the power switch into the off position when the treadmill is not in use. BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the new PROFORM® CROSSWALK 590 LT treadmill. The CROSSWALK 590 LT treadmill offers a selection of features designed to make your workouts at home more enjoyable and effective. And when you’re not exercising, the unique treadmill can be folded up, requiring less than half the floor space of other treadmills. reading this manual, please see the front cover of this manual.
ASSEMBLY To hire an authorized service technician to assemble this product in your home, call 1-800-445-2480. Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Note: After shipping, there may be an oily substance on the exterior of the treadmill or on the shipping carton. This is normal.
1. Make sure that the power cord is unplugged. 1 B With the help of a second person, carefully tip the treadmill onto its left side. Partially fold the Frame (57) so that the treadmill is more stable; do not fully fold the Frame yet. A 92 99 Remove and discard the two indicated screws (A) and the shipping bracket (B). Hole Cut the shipping tie securing the Wire Harness (92) to the Base (99).
3. Remove the M10 Locknut (36), the M10 x 50mm Bolt (26), and the shipping bracket (C) from the Base (99). Attach a Wheel (95) with the Bolt and the Locknut that you just removed. Do not overtighten the Locknut; the Wheel must turn freely. Discard the shipping bracket. 3 26 95 C 99 36 4. Identify the Right Upright (80) and the Right Upright Spacer (90), which are marked with "Right" stickers. 4 Wire Tie Insert the Wire Harness (92) through the Right Upright Spacer (90) as shown.
6. Press a Base Cap (91) into the Base (99). 6 91 99 7. With the help of a second person, carefully tip the treadmill onto its right side. Partially fold the Frame (57) so that the treadmill is more stable; do not fully fold the Frame yet. 7 B A Remove and discard the two indicated screws (A) and the shipping bracket (B). Remove the M10 Locknut (36), the M10 x 50mm Bolt (26), and the shipping bracket (C) from the Base (99).
8. Hold a Screw Spacer (98) inside the lower end of the Left Upright (79). Insert an M10 x 96mm Screw (7) with an M10 Star Washer (8) into the Left Upright and the Screw Spacer. Repeat this step with a second Screw Spacer (98), M10 x 96mm Screw (7), and M10 Star Washer (8). 8 8 Orient the Left Upright Spacer (89) and the Left Upright (79) as shown. Hold the Left Upright Spacer and the Left Upright against the Base (99).
. Attach the Left Handrail (21) to the console assembly with three M4.2 x 19mm Screws (1). 11 Remove the ties from the two M8 Cage Nuts (39). If necessary, press the Cage Nuts back into place. 21 1 39 1 Console Assembly 12. Have a second person hold the console assembly near the Right Upright (80). 12 Console Assembly Connect the Wire Harness (92) to the console wire. See the inset drawing. The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place.
13. Partially tighten two M8 x 25mm Bolts (4) with two M8 Star Washers (9) into the Left Upright (79) and the Left Handrail (21); do not fully tighten the Bolts yet. 13 Next, partially tighten two M8 x 25mm Bolts (4) with two M8 Star Washers (9) into the Right Upright (80) and the Right Handrail (100). 15. Insert the end of a Crosswalk Arm (82) into the hole in the top of a resistance mechanism. Make sure that the bend in the Crosswalk Arm is positioned as shown. 15 Tighten an M4.2 x 19mm Screw (1) into the resistance mechanism and Crosswalk Arm (82) from the direction shown. Press a Small Cap (13) into the hole for the Screw. Bend Attach the other Crosswalk Arm (82) as described above. 82 13 1 Hole 82 Resistance Mechanism 13 16. OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT HOW TO CONNECT THE POWER CORD nominal 120-volt circuit capable of carrying 15 or more amps. To avoid overloading the circuit, do not plug other electrical devices, except for lowpower devices such as cell phone chargers, into the surge suppressor or into an outlet on the same circuit. IMPORTANT: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets and may not be compatible with AFCI-equipped outlets.

To use the information mode, see page 19. The treadmill console offers a selection of features designed to make your workouts more effective and enjoyable. When you select the manual mode of the console, you can change the speed and incline of the treadmill with the touch of a button.
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER 3. Start the walking belt. IMPORTANT: If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures, allow it to warm to room temperature before turning on the power. If you do not do this, you may damage the console displays or other electrical components. To start the walking belt, press the Start button, the Speed increase button, or one of the ten numbered speed buttons. Plug in the power cord (see page 14).
The lower left display can show the elapsed time and the distance that you have walked or run during the workout. Each time you change the incline, the display will show the incline setting for a few seconds. Note: When a workout is selected, the display will show the time remaining in the workout instead of the elapsed time. To measure your heart rate, stand on the foot rails and place your hands on the metal contacts— Metal Contacts avoid moving your hands.
HOW TO USE A PRESET WORKOUT grammed for the next segment, the speed or incline setting will flash in the display to alert you. 1. Insert the key into the console. See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 16. If you have selected a crosswalk workout, you will be prompted to use the crosswalk arms. When the crosswalk indicator on the console lights up, move the crosswalk arms forward and backward as you walk or run on the treadmill.
THE INFORMATION MODE HOW TO USE THE CROSSWALK ARMS The console features an information mode that keeps track of treadmill usage information and allows you to select a unit of measurement for the console. You can also turn on and turn off the display demo mode. As you walk on the treadmill, you can hold the handrails or use the crosswalk arms. To exercise your arms, shoulders, and back for a total body workout, move the crosswalk arms forward and backward as you walk on the treadmill.

Remove the three M4.2 x 19mm Screws (1) and carefully pivot the Motor Hood (63) off. 63 does not begin calibrating, press the Stop button, and then press the Incline increase or decrease button again. When the incline system is calibrated, remove the key from the console. 1 SYMPTOM: The walking belt slows when walked on a. Use only a surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 14. b.

EXERCISE GUIDELINES Burning Fat—To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees and back. 1 2. Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended.
