4. Position the remote sensor as appropriate. When a connected remote sensor is activated, the
Promote Control acts as if the "Start" button was pressed.
Remote sensors can be used in all modes except Bulb Ramping and Bulb HDR, where the remote sensor
port is occupied by a Bulb Ramping / Bulb HDR Assistant Kit.
8.7 Using Motorized Panoramic Heads with Promote Control
You can use a motorized panoramic head (such as Gigapan Epic Pro) together with a Promote Control to
take a series of images suitable for creating a high dynamic range panorama. The motorized panoramic
head sets your camera to a number of positions to take images. Then instead of signaling your camera
directly, it will signal the Promote Control to start a High Dynamic Range sequence at every panoramic
position. The resulting image set can be merged into a High Dynamic Range panorama using manual or
batched processing. See Panoramic Software section for more information on finding a software
application for processing high dynamic range panoramas.
Usage
Use the following workflow to create a high dynamic range panorama image series with a Promote
Control and a motorized panoramic head:
1. Set up your camera on the motorized panoramic head.
2. Your panoramic head should come with a release cord compatible with a Canon EOS Rebel camera,
such as XTi, T1i etc. Connect this panoramic head release cord to the panohead release port and
then to the Promote Control remote sensor port. See Interfaces section for more details on the
sensor port.
3. Set up your camera and Promote Control as described in High Dynamic Range Mode section.
4. Press "Start" on Promote Control to test the high dynamic range image sequence. Note how long the
image sequence takes to complete.
5. Set up your motorized head as described in the head manual.
6. Use your motorized head settings to specify a delay between shots equal to the time it takes Promote
Control to complete the sequence. Add 2-3 seconds extra for safety.
7. If your motorized head allows choosing an exposure time, set it to anything longer than 0.1 seconds.
A value of 1 second is perfectly suitable.
8. Start your motorized head as described in its user manual.
You may want to attach your Promote Control to your motorized head for convenience while the images
are being taken. A Promote Control Tripod Case (P/N PCTRL1-TR-CASE) may be used for this purpose.
