If you selected only a single audio file and the edit focus is elsewhere in the application, a new audio track will
be created for the imported audio file.
Import audio file(s) to an open Audio Clip
It’s also possible to import audio files to open Audio Clips in the sequencer. Proceed as follows:
1. Double-click on the Audio Clip you wish to import the audio file(s) to.
The clip opens.
2. Select “Import Audio File...” from the File menu, or hold down [Ctrl]+[Shift](Win) or [Cmd]+[Option](Mac) and
press [I].
The “Import Audio File” dialog appears.
3. Browse and select the audio file(s) (WAV, AIFF or REX) you want to import.
D If you use Reason Version 5 with Record, you can also import samples from the Song Samples tab of the Tool
Window. All Song Samples can be found in the Song Samples folder in the Locations and Favorites section at
the top left of the Import Audio File dialog.
! If you select REX files, these will be rendered to audio when importing. The Song Tempo and any Tempo Auto-
mation starting at the Clip position will also be taken into account.
4. Click “Open” to import the selected audio file(s).
The audio file(s) will be imported as a new recordings on new Comp Rows. The Comp Row(s) for the imported au-
dio file(s) will be named “<filename.extension> (Imported)” where <filename.extension> is the name of the im-
ported audio file with the extension wav, aiff, rcy or rx2.
Depending on if you selected one or several audio files, the following will happen:
If you selected a single audio file, it will end up on the topmost Comp Row in the audio clip.
If the audio clip is in Single Mode, the imported audio file will be the currently active one. If the clip is in Comp
Mode, any existing recording in the clip will still be the active one.
If you selected several audio files, the first selected file will end up on the topmost Comp Row.
If the audio clip is in Single Mode, the first selected audio file will be the currently active one. If the clip is in Comp
Mode, any existing recording in the clip will still be the active one.
q If you like, you could now edit the Audio Clip and comp the recordings on the different Comp Rows according
to the description in “Creating a comped audio clip”.
Importing audio to Reason devices (Record+Reason)
When loading WAV or AIFF samples or REX (ReCycle) files into the samplers, the drum machine devices or the loop
player, Record supports files of a large number of sample rates and resolutions. You can use files of different formats
in the same device - one drum sound can be an 8-bit sample, the next a 16-bit or 24-bit sample, etc.
