Authorizing Sniffer Portable
Overview
This chapter provides information on authorizing your Sniffer Portable
installation:

About Authorization
Sniffer Portable is installed with a temporary license configured to expire 15
days after the application is started for the first time. To use Sniffer Portable
beyond this grace period, you must authorize your software using the
Authorization utility.
The Authorization utility lets you perform a challenge-response scenario
between the Sniffer Portable unit seeking authorization and the Network
General Customer Care department. You will generate a Request
Authorization file that is emailed to Customer Care. Once Customer Care
receives the Request Authorization file, they will transmit an Enable
Authorization file that enables a specific set of software options and
functionality in Sniffer Portable.
You can also use the Authorization utility at any time after your initial
authorization to add new features or components to Sniffer Portable. See
Upgrading Sniffer Portable on page 17 for more information.
