and questionnaire, the space itself, all of the equipment, and the
feelings expressed during the evaluation.
It is important for the user to feel comfortable while doing the
evaluation. Each individual task is planned out from proposal to
completion, so that the users can carry out the tasks in a smooth
flowing sequence. This makes the entire experience less stressful for
the user.
The evaluation team carried out the pilot study with the
assistance of a single user who was then exempt from taking part in
the actual evaluation process. This user was a female student with no
prior experience of operating a projector who was aged between 18
and 25.
The pilot study was identical to the actual evaluation in
everyway. The actual set up of the test environment was a key factor
in this particular evaluation. Please bear in mind that the room in
which the projector is located is constantly in use by other people. This
raised issues such as how to video the interaction of the user with the
projector without the video being affected by people passing by,
ambient noise and people talking. The fact that there were so many
people in the room appearing in shot could be very distracting.
In the end during the actual tests, we varied camera positions
and focus points depending on where the user was positioned. In this
respect the video angle changes slightly from session to session.
Generally, the camera was positioned behind the users in an effort not
to intimidate them. Only one video camera was used and a still camera
