The main issue our users had with the remote interface was the
lack of clear indication as to the thumb sticks function. It is similar in
many ways to TV but the dials main attribute is that it was designed
to allow users to operate it as a mouse wheel. This means that the
shape and location of the dial are adequate however the fact it is
poorly labelled led to confusion among our users. For this reason we
have decided that to make effective change to the remote we must
incorporate the clearly defined functions on the projector into the
remotes design, whilst maintaining it’s ability to operate as a mouse
wheel. To do this we have decided to directly incorporate the
projectors button layout directly onto the remote control above the
thumb stick, which will now be relegated to the sole function of the
mouse wheel.
This gives the remote a far more intuitive feel and in being
directly linked to the projectors own functions it takes away the air of
it being a TV remote. This over familiarity in our user may have led
them to expect a level of ease of use; this remote is now clearly a
specialised remote for a specialised system. Another amendment to
the remote would be to have it back lit with outlines around buttons
and words, considering it is to be used in a darkened environment, a
