e lter selection feature allows you to choose the properties of the digital lter in the Stratas
built-in DAC. e lter selection does not aect the analog sources.
Digital lters generally have a trade-o between how sharp the lter is and how much ringing
results. A sharp lter allows the most high-frequency signal to pass through, but at the expense of
greater ringing. ere are three lter options in the Stellar Strata Amplier.
Filter 1 is “Fast Roll-o Linear Phase. is lter has very good high frequency response. It has
slightly less ringing than Filter 2 but it does exhibit pre-ringing. While this lter may actually
measure the best in a laboratory, we found it to be the most analytical sounding. is is the
default lter for the Strata.
When this lter is activated, an F1 will appear in the icon bar on the top of the Home screen.
Filter 2 is “Slow Roll-o Linear Phase. is lter is the least sharp and has the least amount of
ringing. ere is a slight loss in high frequencies that might be noticeable on CDs and other
44.1KHz sample rate material. It should not be detectable at all with higher sample rate sources.
When this lter is activated, an F2 will appear in the icon bar on the top of the Home screen.
Filter 3 is “Fast Roll-o Minimum Phase. is lter has more extended high frequency response
than Filter 2 but more ringing as well. ere is no pre-ringing (an undesirable artifact of some
digital lters) so this is still a very musical sounding lter. Some people may prefer this lter for
44.1KHz source material.
When this lter is activated, an F3 will appear in the icon bar on the top of the Home screen.
