A FEW WORDS ABOUT SAFETY…
Check your local boating regulations for a list of required safety equipment when kayaking. At a
minimum, your kayak should carry the following items:
Paddle float
Throw bag with buoyant line
Whistle
Hand pump
Spray Skirt
Personal Flotation Device (PFD) should always be worn when kayaking
In addition, depending on where you paddle and the various conditions you may encounter, you
might also carry: a compass, signal flares/Rescue Streamer, first-aid kit, repair kit, knife, spare
paddle, etc. It is advisable to research the areas you will be touring and include appropriate
additional equipment for emergencies.
Before Kayaking, You Should:
Familiarize yourself with all features & accessories for your Seaward Kayak
Obtain appropriate instruction from a certified kayak instructor
Obtain appropriate instruction in first-aid techniques and CPR
Become aware of the risks and prevention of Hypothermia
Use appropriate equipment and clothing that will increase your safety in conditions that
may occur while kayaking
Never kayak alone - have a paddling buddy
Read literature about kayaking to increase your knowledge & safety
Warning
Water and weather conditions can create hazardous situations. It is your responsibility to
become familiar with potential hazards to avoid injury or death while kayaking.
Obtain certified instruction and become familiar with your new kayak in a safe environment.
Familiarize yourself with maritime regulations in your area (i.e. Coast Guard regulations). Learn
about weather, waves, coastlines, first-aid, navigation, rescue, survival and other hazards
before you expose yourself or others to potentially hazardous situations.

how a person conducts themselves while paddling, so please understand that the use of any
Seaward Kayaks product is conditional on the operator assuming full responsibility for any injury
or death that may occur in connection with the use of same.
