Chapter 4: Windows Basics

To find files in the My Documents folder:
1 Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop. The My Computer
window opens.
2 Double-click the C:\ drive icon. The C:\ window opens.
3 Double-click the My Documents folder. The My Documents window opens
and displays many of your saved personal data files.
You can often identify different data file types by looking at the file’s extension
(the part of the file name following the last period). For example, a document
file might have a .DOC extension and a spreadsheet file might have an .XLS
extension.
To find files using Search:
1 Click Start, then select Search, then For Files or Folders. The Search Results
window opens.
2 Use Windows Search to locate data files by file name or file type. For help
on finding files, click
Help, then select Help Topics.
