PRODUCT USE
QUIKRETE
®
Concrete Expansion Joint can be used in all standard
concrete construction, such as highways, runways, parking garages,
driveways, sidewalks, and floor slabs. Concrete Expansion Joint can
also be used as a buffer between dissimilar materials such as columns,
manhole covers, and adjacent constructions. Meets ASTM D 1752* and
D 4819 Type II.
FEATURES
• Extruded from a high quality closed-cell polyethylene foam
• Will not break or crack when used around curves or columns
• Approximately 10 times lighter than traditional expansion joints
• Will not rot over time due to the near-zero water absorption
• Easy to cut and handle on the jobsite
SIZES
• QUIKRETE
®
Concrete Expansion Joint – 50’ rolls (15.2 M), 4” (100
mm) high.
TECHNICAL DATA
APPLICABLE STANDARDS
ASTM International
• ASTM D545 Test Methods for Preformed Expansion Joint Fillers for
Concrete Construction (Nonextruding and Resilient Types)
•ASTM D3575 Test Methods for Flexible Cellular Materials Made from
Olefin Polymers
• ASTM D1752 Specification for Preformed Sponge Rubber Cork and
Recycled PVC Expansion Joint Fillers for Concrete Paving and Structural
Construction (*With the compressive requirement of Section 5.3 modified
to 10 psi minimum and 25 psi maximum due to the material type)
• ASTM D4819 Specification for Flexible Cellular Materials Made From
Polyolefin Plastics
QUIKRETE
®
Concrete Expansion Joint meets the requirements of ASTM
standards D4819 Type II (Suffixes D4, B5, T
1
3, T
2
4, G2, W1, L1).
Typical physical properties, when tested with the appropriate ASTM
standard, are shown in Table 1.
INSTALLATION
Unroll expansion material and cut to needed length. Attach to
adjacent material (brick, block, existing concrete, etc.) using
QUIKRETE
®
Polyurethane Construction Adhesive (#9902-10), nails or
staples before pouring new concrete. The top of the expansion joint
should be at the same level as the new concrete being placed. Pour
concrete mix and finish.
Note: The expansion joint comes with a perforated tear off strip
called a ‘zip cap’. The ‘zip cap’ design allows the top of the
expansion joint to be removed to provide space for a caulk bead. If
caulking is not desired, install the expansion joint with the ‘zip cap’ on
the bottom.
