RADIOTRONIX Embedded Wireless Modules
WI.232DTS/EUR UART-TO-RF EMBEDDED
WIRELESS MODULES
The Wi.232DTS/EUR module combines a state-of-the art low power wireless transceiver with a
powerful multipoint-to-multipoint protocol controller to form a transparent wireless communication
solution capable of replacing wires in any RS-232/422/485 application. With a 120dB link budget and
very low power operating modes, the Wi.232DTS/EUR module is excellent for AMR, RFID, Home
Automation, and any other application requiring long range (<1500ft LOS) and long battery life . The
Wi.232DTS module is designed for North American operation in the 902-928 MHz band. The
Wi.232EUR module is designed for European operation in the 868-870 MHz band.

WI.232DTS/EUR EVALUATION MODULES
EVMs were created as an easy-to-use prototyping tool for our Wi. family of surface mount modules.
Each EVM is populated with the appropriate module, a LDO regulator, a SMA connector, and two
pinned headers. Customers can prototype with these modules without having to be concerned with
RF specific design considerations. Therefore, these modules are ideal for hobbyists or engineers that
need to get a quick proof of concept prototype working. To properly evaluate the range performance
of the modules, Radiotronix does recommend the use of our RAD kits.
WI.232DTS/EUR DEVELOPMENT KITS (RAD)
The RAD kit for the Wi.232DTS/EUR modules is designed to support rapid evaluation and development
using the modules. The RAD boards have both USB and RS-232 interfaces. All module pins are brought
to a prototyping header. A prototyping area is provided. The boards are powered from either three on-
board AAA batteries, or an external wall transformer. Software is provided to simplify evaluation/testing
of the modules. Wi.232 kits support putting one board in loop-back mode for range testing.

EMBEDDED WIRELESS MODULES
The Wi.M series of modules are microcontroller-less variations of the popular Wi.232 family of modules.
They offer the same excellent RF performance, yet allow the design engineer to control the radio at the
physical level using any microcontroller. They are an excellent choice when product cost is a critical issue
or when support of legacy protocols is required. The modules in the family are footprint compatible with the
entire Wi.module family. This gives the designer a level of flexibility not offered by others. Additional, the
Wi.M family of modules are all factory calibrated and the calibration constants are stored in non-volatile
memory on the module. By using these constants, the designer can calibrate the module in software,
eliminating the need for RF testing in production. A typical circuit consists of a low-cost microcontroller, a
power source, a Wi.M900X module, and an antenna. The Wi.M modules are designed to work with any
microcontroller that is equipped with a hardware or software SPI port, including Microchip microcontrollers,
Rabbit microcontrollers and core modules, BASIC stamps, NETBURNER core modules, and many others.
