1996 - Safety Considerations
for Human Exposure to EMEs
from Mobile Telecommunica-
tions Equipment (MTE) in the
Frequency Range 30 MHz–6
GHz (EME - Electromagnetic
Fields)
To assure optimal radio perfor-
mance and to ensure that expo-
sure to RF energy is within the
guidelines in these standards, the
following operating procedures
should be observed:
For hand-held operation: The ra-
dio should be held in a vertical
position with the microphone one
to two inches away from the
mouth, and the antenna should
be kept one to two inches from
the head or body when transmit-
ting.
For body-worn operation: The an-
tenna should be kept at least one
inch from the body when trans-
mitting.
ElectromagneticInterference/
Compatibility
Nearly every electronic device is
susceptible to electromagnetic in-
terference (EMI) if inadequately
shielded, de-signed, or other-
wise configured for electromag-
netic compatibility.
Turn your radio off in any facilities
where posted notices instruct you
to do so. Hospitals or health care
