The display flashes when the radio is first plugged in or if the power is interrupted and the backup battery is missing or weak. INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERY To keep the clock running in the event of a power failure, install a 9-volt backup battery (not supplied). We recommend an alkaline battery, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-553.
12-1586A.fm Page 5 Thursday, July 8, 1999 4:36 PM CLOCK OPERATION SETTING THE TIME 1. Press and hold TIME SET, then press HOUR. The hour digits advance by 1 each time you press HOUR . Press and hold HOUR to rapidly advance the hour digits. Note: The PM indicator appears on the top left of the display at 12:00 noon and disappears at 12:00 midnight. 2. While you hold down TIME SET, press MINUTE . The minute digits advance by 1 each time you press MINUTE .
12-1586A.fm Page 6 Thursday, July 8, 1999 4:36 PM USING THE ALARMS Using the Buzzer Alarm Setting the Alarm Time To turn on the buzzer alarm, set ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to ALARM. 1. Set ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF. At the preset time, the alarm sounds and automatically turns off after 1 hour, 59 minutes. 2. Press and hold ALARM SET, then press HOUR. The time on the display advances by one hour each time you press HOUR. Hold down HOUR to rapidly advance the hour digits.
12-1586A.fm Page 7 Thursday, July 8, 1999 4:36 PM USING THE SNOOZE FEATURE To temporarily silence the buzzer or radio so it sounds again after 9 minutes, press SNOOZE . You can repeat this until you set ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF to turn off the alarm. To reset the alarm to sound again at the same alarm time on the next day, set ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON back to ALARM or AUTO. Note: If BATTERY SENTINEL lights while you press SNOOZE, the backup battery is getting low.
12-1586A.fm Page 8 Thursday, July 8, 1999 4:36 PM PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Rotate VOLUME to its minimum level. 2. Set ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to ON . 3. Set FM/AM to the desired band. 4. Rotate TUNING to the desired frequency. 5. Rotate VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 8 6. To turn off the radio, set ALARM/ AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF. Note: The AM antenna is built in. Rotate the clock radio for the best AM reception. For the best FM reception, fully extend the AC power cord (which is the FM antenna).

The following suggestions will help you care for your clock radio so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the clock radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Handle the clock radio gently and carefully.

To determine whether your radio is causing the interference, turn off your radio. If the interference goes away, your radio is causing the interference.
