OPERATION TURNING THE CALCULATOR ON AND OFF Press ON/C to turn on your calculator, then tilt the display to the best viewing angle. To clear a calculation from the display, press ON/C again. If you do not press a key for about 5 minutes, your calculator automatically turns off. To turn it off sooner, press OFF. USING THE +/– KEY Press +/– to change the displayed number from positive to negative or from negative to positive. When the number is negative, – appears on the left side of the display.
CORRECTING ENTRY ERRORS If you enter an incorrect value, press CE once. Then enter the correct value and continue your calculation. If you press an incorrect function key (+, –, ×, ÷), simply press the correct function key and continue your calculation. E appears in the lower left corner when: • A calculation result exceeds 10 digits to the left of the decimal point. This is an overflow error. See “Estimating Calculation Results” on Page 6.
Estimating Calculation Results If you perform a calculation that results in an overflow error, you can estimate the correct result (to 10 significant digits) by following these steps. 1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point. 2. Remove the decimal point. 3. Add as many zeros to the right of the number as there were digits to the left of the decimal point. For example, if E 251.0142064 appears, the approximate answer is 2,510,142,064,000. If E 17319.
CALCULATION EXAMPLES You can perform basic calculations (addition, subtraction, and so on) with this calculator as you would with most other calculators. The following sections include examples of more advanced calculations. Mixed Calculations Example: 256 + 378 – 223 × 2.3 ÷ 2.5 + 24 – 36 = You Press: You See: 256 + 378 = 634. – 223 = 411. × 2.3 = 945.3 ÷ 2.5 = 378.12 + 24 = 402.12 – 36 = 366.
Constants For multiplication, the first value you enter is the constant. For addition, subtraction, and division, the second value you enter is the constant. Constant: You Press: You See: 2 2×4= 8. = 16. = 32. 3+6= 9. = 15. = 21. 50 – 5 = 45. = 40. = 35. 48 ÷ 2 = 24. = 12. = 6.
Percentage Example: 20% of 720 is 144. You Press You See 720 × 20 % 144. Add-On Example: 30% added to 540 is 702. You Press You See 540 + 30 % 702. Discount Example: 800 discounted by 20% is 640. You Press You See 800 – 20 % 640.
Reciprocal Example: 1/8 = 0.125 You Press You See 1÷8= 0.125 Exponent 6 Example: 7 = 117649 You Press You See 7×===== , 117 649. Square 2 Example:4 = 16 10 You Press You See 4×= 16.
Square Root Example: 16 = 4 You Press 16 = You See 4. Memory Calculations To store a value in memory, first press ON/C to clear all calculations and MC (memory clear) to clear the memory. Then enter the number or calculation and press M+. Note: Each time you press M+, M–, or MR, M appears in the upper left corner of the display with the number to show that a value is stored in memory. To add a value to memory, enter the number or calculation you want to add, then press M+.
Example: 2392 + 576 ————— – 73 = –64.61582 786 – 432 You Press You See ON/C MC 0. 786 M+ M 786. 432 M– 576 ÷ M 432. , M 2 392. , M 2 968. MR M 354. – M 8.38418079 73 = M –64.
