3-335.fm Page 2 Monday, September 11, 2000 10:57 AM FEATURES Your RadioShack 5-Hour/8-Hour AA/AAA NiCd/Ni-MH Battery Charger charges nickelcadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries in about 5 hours or nickel-metal-hydride (Ni-MH) batteries in about 8 hours. You can charge two or four AA or AAA batteries of the same type and capacity. Or you can charge one 9V battery with the charger’s 9-volt battery terminals. Charging a 9V battery takes about 9 hours.

Reverse Polarity Protection — protects the charger and batteries if you incorrectly install batteries. Charging/Discharging Indicators — the red indicators show that batteries are charging and the green indicator shows that batteries are discharging. Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Switch — lets you select the battery type you are charging.

Before you use the battery charger, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the charger, the batteries to be charged, and the products that use the batteries. Warning: To reduce the risk of injury, charge only Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries with this charger. Other types of batteries might burst, causing personal injury and damage.

Take it to your local RadioShack store for service. • Do not disassemble the charger. Have it serviced or repaired by qualified RadioShack service personnel only. Incorrect assembly can result in a risk of electric shock or fire.

OPERATION General Charging Guidelines • Completely discharge Ni-Cd batteries before you charge them. Repeated partial discharging and recharging can shorten their useful life. This does not apply to Ni-MH batteries. • It is normal for batteries to become warm while charging.

Each channel also has its own red CHARGE indicator that lights when batteries in that channel are charging. • You cannot discharge/charge one 9V battery and AA/AAA batteries at the same time. However, you can discharge/ charge a pair of AA batteries in one channel and a pair of AAA batteries of the same type and capacity in the other channel at the same time. • You cannot discharge/charge only one AA or AAA battery in each battery channel.

Discharging/Charging Batteries Follow these steps to discharge and then charge the batteries: 1.

AAA Batteries 9V Terminals AA Batteries To charge a 9V battery, place it in the 9V channel. Slide the battery's connectors onto the terminals on the compartment’s right side. Caution: Before connecting the charger to AC power, be sure all batteries are correctly installed according to polarity.

(See “Charging Capacities” on Page 13.) DISCHARGE Button STANDARD/ HI-CAP Switch Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Switch 4. Plug the charger into a standard AC outlet. 5. Press DISCHARGE to discharge batteries. The green indicator lights while the charger discharges the batteries. When the battery voltage drops to 0.

Then, the charger immediately begins the charge cycle and the appropriate red indicator(s) light(s). For example, if you only have batteries in the left channel, only the left CHARGE indicator lights. Note: The charger cannot discharge 9V batteries. If the indicators do not light, try one or more of the following suggestions. • Be sure installed.

Warning: To prevent damage to your charger and risk of shock, always unplug the charger from the AC outlet before you remove or replace the batteries. Notes: • The 9V charging channel has no automatic turn-off feature. To avoid exceeding the capacity listed in “Charging Capacities” on Page 13, charge a 9V battery for 7–9 hours. A longer charging time could shorten the battery’s useful life.

If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. • Use and store the charger only in normal temperature environments. • Handle the charger gently and carefully. Don’t drop it. • Keep the charger away from dust and dirt. • Wipe the charger with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.
