Touchscreenlocationrequirements
Touchscreensofferanalternativetousingphysicalbuttonstocontrolyourdisplay.Fullproduct
functionalitycanbeachievedusingtheTouchscreen.
Note:
Touchscreenperformancecanbeaffectedbytheinstallationenvironment,specifically
Touchscreendisplaysinstalledabovedecks,whereitwillbeopentotheelementsmayexhibitthe
following:
•HotT ouchscreentemperature—Ifthedisplayismountedwhereitwillbeexposedtoprolonged
periodsofdirectsunlight,thetouchscreenmaygetveryhot.
•ErroneousTouchscreenperformance—Exposuretoprolongedrainand/orwaterwashover
maycausethedisplaytorespondto‘falsetouches’,causedbytherain/waterhittingthescreen.
If,duetotherequiredinstallationlocation,exposuretotheseelementsisanticipatedthenit
isrecommendedthatyouconsider:
•lockingtheT ouchscreenandusingthephysicalbuttonsinstead—HybridT ouchdisplays
•attachingathird-party‘displayhoodaccessory’toreducedirectsunlightexposureandthe
volumeofwaterthatthedisplayisexposedto.
•installingaremotekeypadsuchastheRMK-9andoperatingthedisplayremotely—T ouch-only
displays
•upgradingtoaHybridT ouchdisplayandusingthephysicalbuttonsinstead—T ouch-only
displays
Wi-Filocationrequirements
AnumberoffactorscaninfluenceWi-Fiperformance,itisimportanttoensureyoutesttheWi-Fi
performance,atthedesiredlocationbeforeinstallingWi-Fienabledproducts.
Distanceandsignalstrength
ThedistancebetweenWi-Fiproductsshouldalwaysbekepttoaminimum.Donotexceedthe
maximumstatedrangeofyourWi-Fiproduct(Maximumrangewillvaryforeachdevice).
Wi-Fiperformancedegradesoverdistancesoproductsfartherawaywillreceivelessnetwork
bandwidth.ProductsinstalledclosetotheirmaximumWi-Firangemayexperienceslowconnection
speeds,signaldropoutsornotbeingabletoconnectatall.
Lineofsightandobstacles
ForbestresultstheWi-Fiproductshouldhaveaclear,directlineofsighttotheproductitwillbe
connectedto.AnyphysicalobstructionscandegradeorevenblocktheWi-Fisignal.
TheconstructionofyourvesselcanalsohaveanimpactonWi-Fiperformance.Forexample,metal
structuralbulkheadsandroofingwillreduceandincertainsituations,blocktheWi-Fisignal.
IftheWi-FisignalpassesthroughabulkheadcontainingpowercablesthiscanalsodegradeWi-Fi
performance.
Reflectivesurfacessuchasmetalsurfaces,sometypesofglassandevenmirrorscandrastically
effectperformanceorevenblocktheWi-Fisignal.
Interferenceandotherequipment
Wi-Fiproductsshouldbeinstalledatleast1m(3ft)awayfrom:
•otherWi-Fienabledproducts
•transmittingproductsthatsendwirelesssignalsinthesamefrequencyrange
•otherelectrical,electronicorelectromagneticequipmentthatmaygenerateinterference
InterferencefromotherpeoplesWi-Fiproductscanalsocauseinterferencewithyourproducts.Y ou
canuseaWi-FianalyzertooltoassessthebestWi-Fichannel(channelnotinuseorusedbyleast
amountofdevices)foryoutouse.
