1.Ensureanappropriatelocationforthetransducer
hasbeenselected,followingtheguidelines
provided.
2.Alignthebottomhalfofthefairingblocksothatit
isparalleltothecenterline(keel)ofthevessel.
3.Usingapermanentmarker,drawaroundthe
outsideedgeoftheblockandtheinternalholefor
thethreadedtubeandanti-rotationbolt.
4.Removetheblockfromthehull.
5.Drillapilotholeinthecenterofthelocation
markedoutonthehullforthethreadedtube.
6.Drilltheholeoutusingasuitablesizeholecutter.
7.Drillasuitablesizedholefortheanti-rotationbolt.
8.Usingsandpaperand/oraleensurethereare
noroughedgesorburrs.
9.Ensureallsurfacesarecleanandfreefrom
debris.
10.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealantallaroundtheedgeofthetopfaceofthe
transducerandthebottomfaceoftheblockthat
willmeetthetransducer.
11.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealantupeachsideofthethreadedtubeand
anti-rotationbolt,ensuringthatthesealantwill
protrudeapproximately6mmabovethenal
tightenednuts.
12.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealanttotheheadoftheanti-rotationboltwhere
itwillmeetthetopfaceofthetransducer.
13.Inserttheanti-rotationboltintotheanti-rotation
holesothatthehexagonalboltheadsitsinthe
captiverecesslocatedinthebottomoftheblock.
14.Feedthetransducercablethroughthebottom
halfofthefairingblock’sthreadedtubehole.
15.Pushtheblockdownontothetransducer,
ensuringthatthelocatorsontheblocklineup
withthelocatorholesonthetransducer.
16.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealantallaroundtheedgeofthetopfaceofthe
bottomhalfoftheblock,whereitwillmeetthe
hull.
17.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealantallaroundtheedgesoftheholesinthe
hull.
18.Guidethetransducercable,threadedtubeand
anti-rotationboltupthroughthevesselhull
andensurethetransducerislinedupwiththe
markingsmadeinstep2.
19.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealantallaroundtheedgeofthebottomfaceof
thetophalfoftheblock,whereitwillmeetthe
hull.
20.Withapersoninsidethevessel,placethetop
halfoftheblockoverthethreadedtubeand
anti-rotationbolt.
21.Placethewasherovertheanti-rotationbolt.
22.Applyathickbeadofmarinegradeadhesive
sealanttothebottomedgeofthenuts.
23.Ensuringthattheblockandtransducerdo
notmove,securethetransducerassemblyby
tighteningthenutsusinganadjustablewrench
(spanner).
Note:Woodenhull—Allowthewoodenhullto
swellpriortotighteningthenutusingtheadjustable
spanner.
Inordertopreventleaksandtransducer
movementwhenhitbyobjectsorwaves,ensure
thatthenutisadequatelytightened.Youshould
seethesealantprotrudingfromtheedgesofall
appliedsurfaces.
DoNOTovertighten.Overtighteningcancause
damagetothetransducerandhullwhichmay
resultinwaterleakingintothehull.
24.Removeanyexcessadhesivesealant.
25.Ensurethatthesealanthasfullycuredbefore
puttingthevesselbackinthewater.
Refertothesealantmanufacturersinstructions
forcuringtimes.
26.Oncethevesselhasbeenputbackinthewater
checkforleaksimmediately.
27.Checkforleaksatregularintervalsafter
installationuntilyouaresatisedthatthereare
noleaks.
28.Ensurecheckingforleaksaroundthetransducer
isaddedtoyourvessel’sroutinemaintenance
schedule.
