11.8Measuringdistancesandbearings
Youcanusethedatabarandcontextmenuinformationyoucanuse
themeasurefunctiontomeasuredistancesinthechartapplication.
Youcandeterminethedistanceandbearing:
fromyourvesseltothepositionofthecursor;
betweentwopointsonthechart.
Measuringfromvesselpositiontocursor
Fromthechartapplication:
1.Selectthelocationonscreenthatyouwanttomeasurethe
distanceorbearingfromyourvessel.
Thechartcontextmenuwillbedisplayed.
2.SelectMeasure.
Thefollowingwillhappen:
Themeasuremenuwillbedisplayed.
Alinewillbedrawnfromthecursorpositiontothecenterof
thescreen.
Thecursorlocationwillbemovedatthecenterofthescreen.
Thebearinganddistancewillbedisplayednexttothenew
cursorlocation.
3.FromthemeasuremenuselectMeasureFromsothatShip
isselected.
Therulerlineisre-drawnfromthecursorpositiontoyourvessel.
4.Youcannowadjusttherulerpositionbymovingthecursorto
thedesiredlocation.
5.Ifyouwanttherulerdisplayedafteryouhaveclosedthemeasure
menu,selectDisplayRulersothatOnishighlighted.
SelectingdisplayrulerwillswitchtherulerOnandOff.
6.Ifyouwanttoadjusttherangeofthechartapplicationwhilst
inthemeasurementmenuselectAdjustRangeandusethe
RangeControltozoominorout.
Measuringfrompointtopoint
Fromthechartapplication:
1.Selectthelocationonscreenthatyouwanttomeasurethe
distanceorbearingfromyourvessel.
Thechartcontextmenuwillbedisplayed.
2.SelectMeasure.
Thefollowingwillhappen:
Themeasuremenuwillbedisplayed.
Alinewillbedrawnfromthecursorpositiontothecenterof
thescreen.
Thecursorlocationwillbemovedatthecenterofthescreen.
Thebearinganddistancewillbedisplayednexttothenew
cursorlocation.
3.SelectMeasureFromsothatCursorisselected.
SelectingmeasurefromwillswitchbetweenShipandCursor.
4.Youcannowadjusttheendpointbymovingthecursortothe
desiredlocation.
5.YoucanalsoSwapDirectionoftherulersothatthebearing
becomesthebearingfromendpointtostartpoint.
6.Ifyouwanttherulerdisplayedafteryouhaveclosedthemeasure
menu,selectDisplayRulersothatOnishighlighted.
SelectingdisplayrulerwillswitchtherulerOnandOff.
7.Ifyouwanttoadjusttherangeofthechartapplicationwhilst
inthemeasurementmenuselectAdjustRangeandusethe
RangeControltozoominorout.

Chartvectorsdisplayindicatorsforheading,COG,winddirection
andtidedirection.
Arangeofvectorgraphicscanbedisplayedinthechartapplication
whenin2Dchartview.Thefollowingvectorscanbeindependently
enabledordisabled:

solidarrowheadspointingtowardsyourvessel,indicatingthewind
direction.Thewidthofthearrowindicatesthewindstrength.
2Tidearrowtideisdisplayedasabluelinewithsolidarrowhead
pointingawayfromyourvessel,inthedirectionofthetidalset.The
widthofthearrowindicatesthetidestrength.

COG(CourseOverGround)vectoragreenlineindicatesthe
vessel’sactualcourse.Adoublearrowheadisusedifthevector
lengthissettoavalueotherthaninnite.

HDG(heading)vectoraredlineshowsthevessel'sheading.
Anarrowheadisusedifthevectorlengthissettoavalueother

thedistanceyourvesselwilltravelinthetimeyouspecifyatyour
