Connections & Setup Choose Your Connection There are several ways to connect your TV. Determine which connection is best for you. Connections & Setup Plug in the TV Plug the end of the power cord into the wall outlet. Match the wide blade of the plug with the wide slot in the outlet. Insert the plug completely into the outlet. Put Batteries in the Remote 1. Remove the battery compartment cover on the remote. 2. Insert new batteries. Match the polarities (+ and -) on the batteries with the diagram on the remote. 3. Put the battery compartment cover back on the remote.
Connections & Setup Set the Menu Language SETUP Select the language to be used in these menus. 1 English 2 Español 3 Français The first part of the SETUP asks you to select your preferred language for the menu system. 1. Highlight your preferred language for the menu system. 2. Press MENU to select that language.

To enter a three-digit channel, press and hold the first digit for two seconds until two dashes appear to the right of the number, then add the second two. Example: to tune to channel 123, press and hold 1 for two seconds, press 2, then press 3.

Using the TV’s Features 12:01 ESPN SAP 60 Channel Banner There are several indicators that might appear when you pr ess the DISPLAY button on the remote. This display is called the Channel Banner. The following list describes the items on the Channel Banner screen (left to right and top to bottom). 00:00 12:01 Displays the current time. Using the TV’s Features How V-Chip Works When turned “on,” the V-Chip software reads a code that most broadcasters send with programs. That code tells the software the program’s age-based rating (TV-MA, TV-14, etc.) and content themes [(Violence (V), Adult Language (L), etc.)]. If you have blocked the rating and/or content themes that the program contains, you will receive the message, “This channel is not approved for viewing,” when you tune to that particular channel.

(Content is represented by the D, L, S, V and FV on your screen. See the beginning of this section for details.) When you block a content theme for a particular rating, you automatically block that content theme for higher rated programs as well.

Using the TV’s Menu System How to Use the Different Types of Menus and Control Panels The TV’s menu system has three types of scr eens: menus, control panels, and choice lists. Y ou use the buttons on the remote or the front panel to access the menu system and make changes to the settings. The following pages explain how to use the different types of menus to adjust the features of your TV.

Contrast Adjusts the difference between the light and dark areas of the picture. Color Adjusts the richness of the color.
Using the TV’s Menu System Using Closed Captioning Many programs are encoded with closed-captioning information, which lets you display the audio portion of a program as text on the TV screen. Closed captioning is not available on all channels at all times. Only specific programs encoded with closed-captioning information are applicable. When a program is closed captioned, the CC icon is displayed in the channel banner. See Chapter 2 for more information about the channel banner.
Using the TV’s Menu System Tip To enter a number greater than 99, press and hold “1” to enter the hundreds digit, then press the two remaining numbers. Normal List Only the channels included in the Normal list are available when you scan up and down using CHAN and CHAN^. Use the CHAN and CHAN^ buttons to indicate whether the channel number indicated is included (Yes) or is not included (No) in the Normal channel list.

Other Information Troubleshooting Most problems you encounter with your TV you can correct by consulting the Troubleshooting list that follows. TV Problems TV won’t turn on • • • • • Press the POWER button. Make sure the TV is plugged in. Check the wall receptacle (or extension cord) to make sure it is “live” by plugging in something else. Something might be wrong with your remote control. Press the POWER button on the front of the TV.
Other Information The Remote Control Doesn’t Work • Something might be between the remote and the remote sensor on the component. Make sure there is a clear path. • Maybe the remote isn’t aimed directly at the TV. • Maybe batteries in remote are weak, dead or installed incorrectly. Put new batteries in the remote. Problems with V-Chip/Parental Controls The rating limits don’t work • You must lock the settings.

For how long after your purchase: • 90 days from date of purchase for labor charges. • One year from date of purchase for parts. • Two years from date of purchase for the picture tube.
