Playing mp3 or JPEG files
Your DVD Recorder can play rap3 files and JPEGfiles.You can also create a musica_slide show by putting both rap3 (MPEG- I,layer 3) and JPEGfiles on
the same disc.
rap3 is an audio file format which compresses recorded music. It w_s developed by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in collaboration with Thomson Inc.The main
advantage of the rap3 format is the ability to store CD-quality music tracks that are user4riendly and compressed on a personal computer, rap3 (MPEG-3,
which s_ands for Motion Picture Experts GrougeLayer 3, meaning the third _ayerof information) is a format used to compress digRa{ audio. Since the
audio is compressed, it takes up less space.
Note:Youran only play true MPg filesin the DVD Recorder-- someproducts usesoftwareto compressMP3 files and convertthem to other formats suchasMPX.YourDVD
Recorderwon't recognizeor play MPX filesor other types of convertedMP3 files.
JPEG fi_esare image fi_es.Make su_e that they have a resolution of less than 5 mngapixe_s.
Note:Thetime taken for the contentsof the d_scto fie thsplayedvaries accordingto the s_zeand number ofJPEGfiles actually on the disc.If nothing isdisplayedafter a few
minutes,it ts hkelythat cer_alnfiles anetoo large.In th_scase,reduce the files'resolutionto lessthan 5 megaplxelsand write another disc.
Creating an mp3 Disc onYour Computer
Your DVD Recorder handles MPEG_{,_ayer 3 audio.If you encode your own mp3 files from an audio CD, avoid using the features of MPEG_2,such as the
22kHz sampling frequency.
Be su_e to make a data CD rather than an audio CD. _fyou make an audio CD, you will _osethe extra features and compression of the MP3 format.

I. Place the disc in in the disc tray with the printed side facing up (a choice {ist
appears). If you want to play rap3 files, highlight Music; if you want to view JPEGfiles,
highlight Pictures; if you want to play both, highlight Both.
2. FftheAutoPlayoptioninthePlayModemenuisenabled(seepage24),thedisc's
contents are diap{ayed, otherwise press the PLAY button to display them.
3. Select a folder using the A and V buttons on the remote control then press OK
to display the list of fi_esor press PLAY to start p_ayinga_lthe files contained in the
fo_de_
4. Select a file using the _(, _, A and Y buttons, press OK (the options appear). Use
the A and Y buttons to scrol_ through the options and press OK when desired
option appears.
rap3 file: if you press play when a file is highlighted, the p_ayer beginsby playing
the selected file,then al_the fi_esand subfo_ders contained in the same folde_
The player then plays the contents of the folders at the same _eve_as the folder
containing the fi_e selected at the star_.
Not_:
Wh#e I_sten_ngyou can use the _ or _ button to go back to the previous track or go to the next
one, and press the MENU button to thyplay the d_sc's contents.
Some file names are too long to be completely thsplayed. Usually, the full name appears next to the
play _con (the right side of the screen).
JPEG file: the player s_arts the s_ideshow with the JPEG fi_eyou have selected
and proceeds to display a_lthe JPEG files in the same folder, then a_lthe JPEG
files in the suhfolders located in the same folde_
Note:During the shdeshowyou can usetheANGLE button to rotatethe picture pgo,the ZOOM
button to magnify the picture,the _ Or_ buttons to go back to the previousp_c_ureor go on to
the nex_one,the FORWARDand REVERSEfictions to changethespeed of theslide show (the speed
selectionvariesdepeod_ngupon the s_zeof theJPEGfiles,and the MEND button to in_e_rup_the slide
show and displaythe disc'scontents.
5. Press the _NFO button to display the Info menu during p_ayback.
rap3 file: press the AUDIO or PLAY MODE button several times to select a
playback mode (s_andard, program, random, _apeat).
JPEG file: press the _ button to select a projection speed.
6. Whentheplayerhasp_ayedal_thefiles, thedisc'scontentsappear.
7. Press STOP to end playback.
