Explanation of Input Jacks and Cables
This section describes the jacks and cablesyou can use to make connections (onty audio/video cab{esare packed with your DVD Recorder -- you can
purchasecables by ca_ling1-800-338-0376, details are on page 62, or order online at www.rca.com, or go to your Ioca_electronics store). There are severa_
ways to connect your DVD Recorder to your TV depending upon the cablesyou have and the iacks that are on the hack of your TV.
Different iacks and cablesprovide a di_erent _evel of pe_ormance. Jt'simportant to remember, we're r_lking about degrees of picture improvement for
comparison. _f your TV has Component jacks (Y, Pb, Pr), S_VIDEO, and composite video (often cofor_coded yolfow and grouped with Audio Left and Right
iacks that are white and red); Component (Y, Pb,Pr), would be considered excellent, S-V_deowou_d be very good, and the comgosite video jack (yellow)
would be considered good.
PO
Component Video (Y, Pb, Pr) Jacks and Cables
TheY, Pb, Pr jacks provide optimum picture quality because the video is separated into three sigoa{s(two signals are
dedicated to the cofor portion of the image, and the other signa_is dedicated to the black and white part of the image).
To ensure m_imum picture quality, use three video-grade cablesfor the connection. There are bundled component video
cablessold that are color-coded to m_tch the Y,Pb, Pr jacks (red, green, and blue). Component Video Ingot jacks are usually
found on Digita_Televisions (HDTV).
Note:A_so, remember to connec; the left and right audio cables because the Y,Pb, Pr jacks and cables carry only the picture signal, not the
sound.
S-VIDEO
®
S.Video Jacks and Cables
The S_Video (separate video) jack provides better picture quality than a composite video iack (sometimes labeled VIDEO
and color-coded yellow on TVs) because S-Video keeps the color (chrominance, also called ch_oma) part of the sigoal
sepal-ate from the black and white (luminance) part of the picture.
S_Video cab{es are designed to keep the cofor information separated, if your "IV has an S_VIDEO jack, connect the DVD
Recorder to theTV with an S-Video cable for a better quality picture.
Note: Remember to connect the left and right audio cables because the S-Video cable carries only the plcture signal, not the sound.

Audio/Video Jacks and Cables (RCAagype)
Audio
These jacks are used to send the audio fi-om the disc you're ptaying in the DVD Recorder to theT_The audio jacks and
cables are often color-coded (red for right audio, and white for left autho). You must connect audio cablesto the AUDIO
L and R jacks on the DVD Recorder and the corresponding Audio Input Jacks on the TV no matter which Video jack you
connect (V_DEO; S_VIDEO;Y, Ph,Pr)
Noze: If your component has only one input for audio (mona), connect it to the left (white L/Mona) aodlo jack on the TV and don't connect
the right audio part of the cable.
Video
The basicVideo iack (usually color-coded yellow) is also referred to as composite video. Composite video doesn't keep
color information separated ({ike S-Video), but it's better than the video quality you get from an RF coaxial cab{e (the
type used to p_ugthe cable feed into aTV).
