Chapter 1 Things to Consider Before You Connect Protect Against Power Surges • Connect all components before you plug any of their power cords into the wall outlet. • Turn off the TV and/or components before you connect or disconnect any cables. • Make sure all antennas and cables are properly grounded. Refer to the Important Safeguards sheet packed with your DVD player. Protect Components from Overheating • Don’t block ventilation holes on any of the components.
Chapter 1 Types of Discs Your DVD Player will Play • DVD video discs – DVD video discs contain high quality picture and sound content. • Audio discs – Audio CDs contain musical or sound content only. • Video CD discs – Like DVD video discs, Video CDs contain picture and sound content. The difference is the amount of information that can be stored on the disc. • CD-R – A disc that you can write information to once (for example, download MP3 files). • CD-RW – A re-writable disc.

Chapter 1 Cables Needed to Connect Your DVD Player The pictures below show the cables needed for the connections represented in this book.
Chapter 1 Connect the Power Cord to the DVD Player 1. Make sure that the AV adapter matches the local voltage. 2. Plug the AV adapter into the DC IN jack on the side of the player. 3. Plug the other end into an AC outlet. GO TO PAGE 13 VOLUME PHONES ON POWER OFF DC IN S-VIDEO COAX. Connect Headphones to the DVD 1. Make sure power is turned off when inserting or removing headphones from the player. 2. Insert headphones into the PHONES jack on the side of the player.

Connect end of the audio cable with the single plug to the AUDIO OUT jack on the back of your DVD Player, and the end with two plugs to the corresponding Audio Input jacks (L = white, R = red) on your TV. Connect the left (white) and right (red) plugs on the audio cable to your audio/video receiver and the other end of the cable to the AUDIO OUT jack on the back of your DVD Player. 2. Chapter 1 Install the Battery in the Remote 1. Remove the battery compartment cover on the back of the remote. 2. Insert new battery. Match the polarities (+ and –) on the battery with the diagram on the remote. 3. Put the battery compartment cover back on the remote. Important Battery Information • If you’re not going to use the remote for a month or more, be sure to remove the battery because they can leak and cause damage.

Insert the AC adapter into the jack on the battery charger (a). 2. Plug the adapter into an AC outlet (b) 3. Connect the charger to the battery unit (c). 4. The indicator light on the charger will come on while the charger is working. When the battery is charged, the light will go off. 5.

Advances backward one chapter at a time. ANGLE GO BACK ZOOM REPEAT (skip +) Allows you to search forward through a disc while it is in play mode. Advances forward one chapter at a time. A-B Allows you repeat a portion of the disc from a designated point (A) to another designated point (B).
Chapter 1 Number buttons (0-9) Use the number buttons to input information such as chapter numbers, track numbers, or to make selections on some menu screens. When you need to enter a 2-digit number, press 0/10 to enter the number 10. The +10 button is used to enter 2-digit numbers larger than 10. For example, for the number 11, press +10 and 1.

Chapter 1 Adjusting the Color and Brightness of the Screen You can adjust the color and brightness of the picture by using the buttons directly below the screen. • Color – Push the Color button with the up arrow to add more color to the picture. Push the Color button with the down arrow to reduce color in the picture. • Brightness – Push the Brightness button with the up arrow to brighten the picture. Push the Brightness button with the down arrow to darken the picture.

Chapter 2 Regional Coding Both the DVD player and the discs are coded by region. These regional codes must match in order for the disc to play. If the codes don’t match, the disc won’t play. This player’s code is region 1. Using Different Menus Each disc is programmed with different features. There are three separate menu paths that you can use to access features: • The Disc menu – The Disc menu is part of each disc and is separate from the DVD player’s menu.
Chapter 2 To Load and Play a Disc CC Open the DVD player by pushing the OPEN switch to the left and lifting gently. Turn on your DVD Player (move the POWER switch on the side of the player to the ON position). 'tt CCaattcchh UUp p an 1. Press the OPEN button on the left side of the disc tray. The disc tray opens. 2. Place a disc gently into the tray with the disc’s label facing up (double-sided discs have content on both sides, so you can place either side up). 3.
Chapter 2 Using a Disc Menu A disc is capable of having an on-screen menu that is separate from the DVD player’s menu system and on-screen Info Display. The disc menu might only contain a list of the titles and chapters, or it may allow you to change features such as language and playback settings. Although the content and operation of disc menus vary from disc to disc, the following example will give you an idea of what to expect. 1. While the disc is playing, press the MENU button on the remote.
Chapter 2 3. Press the up/down arrows to select a language, and press OK on the remote. 4. Press MENU on the remote to resume playback. Note: Any settings you change on the disc menu only override the default settings in the DVD Player’s menu temporarily. Default settings are the settings that you set up in the DVD Player’s menu system. To change the default settings, see Chapter 5. In the example on the left, English is highlighted. Press OK on the remote to play the disc with English dialog.
Chapter 2 Slow Motion Playback 1. Press (slow) on the remote for forward slow motion playback. 2. Press the button again to decrease the speed. With each consecutive press of the SLOW button, the playback speed decreases. For example, The first press of the (slow) button plays back at 1/2 speed, the second press plays back at 1/4 speed, etc. 3. To resume normal playback, press playback is resumed.
Chapter 2 Program PROGRAM P01 : 05 In the example above, the first chapter in the program will be the fifth chapter. The Program playback option allows you to enter the order in which you want chapters to play. (STOP) to stop playback. 1. Press 2. Press PLAY MODE on the remote control (the Play Mode info banner appears). 3. Press the PLAY MODE button until the Program option is displayed. 4. Use the number buttons to enter the chapters/tracks in the order you want them to play. 5.

Press the TIME SEARCH button twice (The time prompt appears in place of the Chapter information). 2. Use the number buttons to enter the elapsed time you want to go to in that title. For example, entering 01:35:12 will start playback one hour, thirty-five minutes and twelve seconds into the title. Note: Use the 10/0 button to enter zeros.
Chapter 2 Subtitles When a DVD is recorded with subtitles, you can use the Subtitle feature to view the subtitles on-screen. To turn subtitles on: When the SUBTITLES button is pressed, the Info Display shows the number of available subtitles and the currently selected subtitle. 1. Press the SUBTITLE button on the remote. The Info Banner displays the default subtitle language and the number of subtitle languages available. If no subtitles are available, the screen displays NO SUBTITLE. 2.
Chapter 2 Changing the Camera Angle Some DVDs contain multiple angles of a particular scene or sequence. 1. During disc playback, press ANGLE on the remote. (The angle icon appears. If no additional camera angles are available, the symbol will be displayed.) If multiple camera angles are available, the ANGLE icon displays the current angle number and the number of angles available. For example, 1/4 indicates that angle one is being displayed, and there are four different angles available. 2.
Chapter 2 Using the Repeat Feature There are four repeat options: • Off • Chapter – repeats the chapter that is playing • Title – repeats the title that is playing • A-B Repeat – repeats a selected segment of the disc To Repeat a Chapter or Title: Press the REPEAT button to select Title or Chapter Repeat. The REPEAT button toggles between chapter repeat, title repeat and off. 1. While a disc is playing, press REPEAT (the repeat banner appears). 2. Press REPEAT again to turn on chapter repeat.

Chapter 3 Time Search TRACK 03 GO TO 01:36 03:15 You can use the TIME SEARCH feature to go to a specific point in a track. 1. Press the TIME SEARCH button. A prompt appears beneath the Track number in the Info Display. 2. Use the number buttons to enter the elapsed time you want to go to in that track. For example, entering 01:36 will start playback one minute and thirty-six seconds into the track. Note: Use the 0/10 button to enter zeros.
Chapter 3 A-B Repeat TRACK 03 03:15 REPEAT A A-B Repeat lets you repeat a specific segment on the disc that you define. 1. At the start of the segment you want to repeat, press the A-B button on the remote. The Info Display shows “REPEAT A.” 2. Allow the disc to play to the end of the segment you want to mark. You must let the disc play in standard playback mode to set the B point in A-B Repeat. 3. Press the A-B button again to set the B point.

The track list is displayed in two columns. • Use the arrow buttons on the remote to select different tracks. As you highlight a track in the track list, that track will begin playing. Skipping Tracks In the example above, track 2 is highlighted.
Chapter 3 Program The Program playback option allows you to enter the order in which you want tracks to play. 1. Press STOP to stop playback. 2. Press PLAY MODE on the remote control (the Play Mode info banner appears). 3. Press the PLAY MODE button until the Program option is displayed. 4. Use the number buttons to enter the first track you want to play. As soon as you enter a number, The Info display shows the order number followed by a colon and the track number. 5.

Chapter 4 What is a Video CD? Like DVD discs, Video CDs contain picture and sound content. Video CDs (VCDs) are encoded in a different format. VCDs don’t hold as much information as DVD discs and the picture quality is not as high. VCDs can have more than one title. Each title is divided into tracks (similar to chapters on a DVD disc). The Video CD Disc Menu A Video CD disc is capable of having an on-screen menu that is separate from the DVD player’s menu system and on-screen information banners.
Chapter 4 If the Video CD Has Playback Control If a disc is encoded with the playback control function, a menu screen appears after the disc is loaded into the player. 1. Use the number buttons on the remote to select a track. 2. Press (play/OK) to begin playback of the selected track. 3. Press or 4. Chapter 4 Using the Time Search Feature You can use the Time Search feature to begin playback from any point on the disc (in the currently playing title) by entering the elapsed time. For example, if you have a favorite scene that begins 12:34 minutes into the movie, you can go directly to that point in the title. 1. Press the TIME SEARCH button on the remote (the time search prompt will be displayed). 2. Enter the elapsed time where you want to begin playback.

Chapter 5 SETUP MENU DISPLAY SOUND PASSWORD PREFERENCES The Setup Menu The Setup Menu is the DVD Player’s main menu. It contains features and options that let you customize your DVD player. EXIT SETUP PRESS OK TO SELECT DISPLAY MENU IMAGE STANDARD ANGLE LANGUAGE DIGITAL OUT SUBTITLE The Display Menu The Display Menu controls how the picture and other information appear on the screen.
Chapter 5 Image Depending on the type of television you have, you may want to adjust the screen setting (aspect ratio). The default setting is 4x3 (pan & scan). 4x3 PS (Pan & Scan) 1. With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the Display option. Press select (the DISPLAY menu is displayed). 3. Chapter 5 Standard This feature can be used to select a different color system according to the type of TV being used. The TV type is preset for you and should not be changed. Angle The Angle icon is displayed when there is more than one camera angle available for the scene that is playing. If you don’t want the Angle icon displayed on-screen, you may turn it off. 1. With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the Display option.
Chapter 5 DISPLAY MENU IMAGE STANDARD ANGLE LANGUAGE DIGITAL OUT SUBTITLE Menu Language Use this feature to change the language for the player’s on-screen menu system. The default is English. ENGLISH FRENCH SPANISH MAIN MENU 1. With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the Display option. Press select (The Display menu appears). 3. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight the Language option. The language choices appear on the right. 4.
Chapter 5 DISPLAY MENU IMAGE STANDARD ANGLE LANGUAGE DIGITAL OUT SUBTITLE Selecting Digital Output Type If you have a receiver with a digital signal input, use this feature to select your player’s type of digital output. OFF No signal is output from the optical or coaxial port. OFF BITSTREAM PCM MAIN MENU BITSTREAM Select this option when the DVD player is connected with a power amplifier through optical or coaxial port. The power amplifier connected must have Dolby Digital, DTS and MPEG decoding.
Chapter 5 DISPLAY MENU IMAGE STANDARD ANGLE LANGUAGE DIGITAL OUT SUBTITLE Subtitles Subtitles can be turned on or off. ON OFF 1. With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the Display option. Press select (The DISPLAY menu is displayed). 3. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight the Subtitle option. The subtitle choices (on or off) appear on the right. 4. Press the right arrow button to move to the subtitle choices.
Chapter 5 The Sound Menu Compression This feature compresses the dynamic range (quietest sound to loudest sound) of a disc’s soundtrack. For example, action scenes might be very loud, while whispered dialog is quiet. The Compression feature evens out the range of the volume by making loud sounds quieter and soft sounds louder. The Compression option is always on. You can adjust the compression with the Range option (see below).
Chapter 5 Mono/Stereo This option allows you to set the output mode of the left and right audio signals. 1. With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the Sound option. Press menu is displayed). 3. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight the Mono/Stereo option. The mono/stereo choices appear on the right. 4. Press the right arrow button to move to the mono/stereo choices. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight the desired choice.
Chapter 5 Speakers The Front Speaker feature has two options: • STEREO+ If you have a Dolby Pro Logic receiver hooked up, select this option so the receiver can decode the signals and reproduce a surround sound effect. • STEREO Select this option if you have a stereo receiver hooked up. Use the down arrow to highlight Password (the Password menu appears). 3. Highlight the Password option. 4.

Chapter 5 The Preferences Menu Selecting the Audio Preference Use the Audio menu to select the soundtrack language that you prefer. If the disc you are playing has that language available, it will play in that language. If your preferred audio language isn’t available, the disc’s default language will be played. 1. With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the down arrow to highlight Preferences (the Preferences menu appears). 3. Highlight the Audio option.

Selecting the Subtitle Language Use the Subtitle Language menu to select the subtitle language you prefer. If the disc you are playing has that language available, it will display subtitles in that language. If your preferred subtitle language isn’t available, the disc’s default language will be displayed. 1.

With no disc playing, press SETUP (the main menu appears). 2. Use the down arrow to highlight Preferences (the Preferences menu appears). 3. Highlight the Disc Menu option. A list of languages appears on the right. 4. Use the right arrow to move to the language choices. Use the up/down arrows to highlight the desired choice. 5.

Setting the Rating Limit The Parental feature is a rating limit system, like movie ratings. It works with DVD discs that have been assigned a rating. This helps you control the types of DVDs that your family watches.

Chapter 6 Troubleshooting If you are experiencing product operation problems, please review the troubleshooting section before you call for service. Refer to the Limited Warranty for information on how to obtain repair service. Player won’t work • Reset the DVD Player by unplugging the AC power cord and plugging it back in. No Power • Plug in the DVD Player. Make sure both ends of the AC power cord are securely plugged into the player and into an AC outlet.
Chapter 6 • If you connected an audio or audio/video receiver to your DVD Player, make sure you chose the correct input setting on the receiver. Remote control won’t work • Insert new batteries in the remote. • Operate the remote control at a distance of no more than 20 feet. • Remove any obstacles between the remote and the DVD Player or other component. If your DVD Player is in an entertainment cabinet, the glass doors may be obstructing the remote control from operating the unit. Open the doors.
Chapter 6 Subtitle and/or audio language is not the one selected from the initial setting • If the subtitle and/or audio language does not exist on the disc, the initial settings will not be seen/ heard. The disc’s priority language is selected instead. Set the subtitle and/or audio language manually through the Info Display or the player menu. The menu is displayed in a foreign language • The Menu Language preference is set to that language.
Chapter 6 Care and Maintenance Handling Cautions • Before connecting other components to this player, be sure to turn all components off. • Don’t put any container filled with liquid or any small metal objects on the player. • Don’t place anything other than the disc in the disc tray. • Exterior influences such as lightning and static electricity can affect normal operation of this player.
Chapter 6 Cleaning Discs • Dirty discs can cause reduced video and audio performance. Always keep discs clean by wiping them gently with a soft cloth from the inner edge toward the outer perimeter. • If a disc becomes very dirty, wet a soft cloth in water, wring it out well. Wipe the dirt away gently, and remove any water drops with a dry cloth. • Do not use record-cleaning sprays or anti-static agents on discs.

For how long after your purchase: • • • 90 days - Unit exchange, which includes parts and labor. 91 days to 1 year - Unit exchange, which includes parts only; you pay the labor. The warranty for rental units begins with the first rental or 45 days from date of shipment to the rental firm, whichever comes first.

Shipping instructions will be included on the carton along with your SR number which will allow you to easily ship the unit back to us. Make sure you insure your shipment in case of damage or loss.
