To assure all products RECARO manufactures worthy of the name, we’ve subjected them to a comprehensive development program complying with American FMVSS 213 safety standards.
The RECARO child seat you have purchased is a high quality product. Its different settings and its stable and ergonomic design ensures that the RECARO child seat is a safe and comfortable place for your child to sit when traveling in your car. However, before you use it, you need to adjust it to your child’s size and then install it carefully so that the seat will perform as required. These instructions will help you do this, so please read them carefully. The child seat is covered by a 12-month warranty.
Safety Warnings WARNING! DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur • Use only with children whose weight is between 30 and 100 lb (13.6 and 45.4 kg) and height is between 37 and 59 in (94 and 150 cm). • Discontinue use of your Vivo / Vivo lite child restraint that is older than six years or has been in a severe crash to prevent injury due to deterioration or hidden damage. See date of manufacture, located on restraint.
WARNING! DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur • Restraint systems should be securely belted to the vehicle, even when they are not occupied, since in a crash an unsecured child restraint system may injure other occupants. • This restraint is NOT certified for aircraft use because this child restraint requires a lap AND shoulder belt. • This booster is only to be used as a complete assembly of backrest and seat cushion.
Section 2: General Information Extreme Weather When it is hot, RECARO recommends the following tips to reduce possible injury or discomfort to your child: • Park your vehicle in the shade to help keep the restraint cooler. • Cover the child restraint with a sheet or blanket when not in use. • ALWAYS check surface temperatures of the child restraint before placing a child in it.

Section 5: Assembling and Adjusting the VivoTM / VivoTM lite to your Child This child restraint system is suitable for children who fall into the proper height range as shown in the chart at left, and whose weight is between 30 and 100 lbs. (13.6 and 45.4 kg). 37 inches - 59 inches (94 cm) (150 cm) Your Vivo / Vivo lite must be assembled prior to first use. 1 2 Locate the slots at the rear of the seat cushion to the tabs at the bottom of the seat back.
3 Rotate the seat cushion up allowing tabs to lock into slots. 4 It requires you to firmly rotate the seat back until the tabs snap into position. Check for complete assembly by pulling the seat back up from the seat cushion.
Head Restraint Adjustment The purpose of the head restraint adjustment is to maximize side impact protection for the child’s head and properly position the vehicle shoulder belt across the child’s body. There are 6 adjustment positions to allow the Vivo / Vivo lite to grow with your child. To properly fit the child, the red 1 vehicle shoulder belt routings must be above the child’s shoulder... 2 3 ...AND the child’s head must be centered vertically between the top and bottom of the head restraint.
Backrest Recline Adjustment The purpose of the backrest recline adjustment is to help the child restraint system fit flat against your vehicle’s seating surfaces. The backrest has three positions. However, due to great variation in vehicle seating shape and design, this child restraint is NOT suitable for all vehicle seats.

DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur • Do NOT use the child restraint when the child’s shoulders are even with or above the red shoulder belt routing when the head restraint is adjusted to its highest position. • Do NOT use the child restraint when the child’s ear is above the top edge of the head restraint when the head restraint is adjusted to its highest position.
Section 6: Learning About Your Vehicle It is important to become familiar with the features of your vehicle so that your child rides as safely as possible. Read the vehicle owner’s manual to learn about the safety features and adjustments available for safe travel. Below is a diagram that helps you to identify key features. Not all vehicles will have all features described here.
Because the design and operation of vehicle belts vary, make sure to observe the following guidelines: • Use only the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt (or “3-point”) system when restraining the child in this belt positioning booster seat. • Do NOT use a lap belt only. The center rear seating position can be used ONLY if there is a lap and shoulder belt (“3 point”) seat belt in that seating position. DO NOT use the center rear position if there is a lap belt only.
Forward-facing vehicle seats must ALWAYS be used with this child restraint. Do NOT install this child restraint into any of the following types of seating positions: • ALWAYS install this child restraint system forward-facing. • NEVER install the Vivo / Vivo lite rear-facing. • NEVER install the Vivo / Vivo lite in the rear seat of small extended cab pickups. • NEVER install the Vivo / Vivo lite side-facing.
Section 7: Using the VivoTM / VivoTM lite in Your Vehicle 1 1. C hoose a forward-facing vehicle seating location with a 3-point seat belt. Adjust the vehicle’s backrest into the upright position. Be sure the area is flat and clear of objects that might get in the way of installing the child restraint. 2. Place the Vivo on the vehicle seat. Firmly push the Vivo / Vivo lite rearward toward the vehicle backrest, making sure the booster is positioned flat against the bottom and back seating surfaces.
Section 8: Riding in the VivoTM / VivoTM lite 1. A djust the Vivo / Vivo lite head restraint as described in Section 5. Provided that your child’s height is the proper range between 37 and 59 inches (94 and 150 cm) tall and weigh 30 to 100 lbs (13.6 to 45.4 kg), have your child sit in the Vivo / Vivo lite.
2. Next, place the vehicle’s 3-point seat belt around the child and through the red belt routings as follows: 1 2 3 4 a. R oute the shoulder portion of the vehicle’s 3-point seat belt through the red shoulder belt routing on the seat belt supply side of the head restraint. b. R oute the lap belt portion of the 3-point seat belt through the red routing on the seat belt supply side of the restraint located just below the armrests. c.

DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur • Do NOT use the child restraint when the child’s shoulders are even with or above the red shoulder belt routing when the head restraint is adjusted to its highest position. The child is too tall to use the Vivo / Vivo lite. • Do NOT use the child restraint when the child’s ear is above the top edge of the head restraint when the head restraint is adjusted to its highest position. The child is too tall to use the Vivo / Vivo lite.
Section 10: Care and Maintenance The Vivo / Vivo lite has been engineered for long life and trouble-free usage. The fabric has been designed to resist stains and soiling. With proper care and maintenance, this premium fabric will retain its beauty for years to come. To clean the trim cover “on the go”, follow these easy steps: • Remove excess soiling immediately. • Blot area with dry cloth.
Section 11: Trim Cover Removal and Reinstallation 1 2 3 1. Place seat on its back. Push seat cushion towards the floor away from seat back. Lift and rotate the backrest upward until it snaps and releases from the seat base. 2. Disconnect the touch fastener at the back of the lower backrest cover and pull the cover forward off the side bolsters. 3. Remove the elastic at the bottom of the backrest, then remove the cover from the headrest by pulling up and sliding towards the front of the headrest. 4.
Section 12: Trouble Shooting In certain vehicle applications, you may encounter challenges to safely install and position a child in the restraint system. This section gives ideas on how to solve some of these situations. If you do not find an adequate solution, call us at 1-800-8-RECARO for help. Problem: The seat belt is twisted.
Problem: The vehicle shoulder belt is not centered on my child’s shoulder. Solution: Check to make sure the shoulder belt is through the red shoulder belt routing. Make sure the head restraint is positioned at the proper height to match your child’s shoulder height. The head restraint should be positioned so the shoulder belt routing is just above your child’s shoulder.

Section 16: Glossary 3-Point Seat Belt: A seat belt with both a lap and a shoulder portion, having three attachment points (one shoulder, two hips). 2-Point Seat Belt: A seat belt system with two attachment points. A lap belt. Airbag: A passive (idle) restraint system that automatically deploys during a crash to act as a cushion for the occupant. It creates a broad surface on which to spread the forces of the crash, to reduce head and chest injury.
Child Restraint System: Common term for a specially designed device that secures a child in a motor vehicle, meets federal safety standards, and increases child safety in a crash. Also called a “Car Seat.” Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213: Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that pertains to all restraint systems intended for use as crash protection in vehicles for children up to 50 pounds. Required for child restraints sold in the USA.
TS-16949: International quality system that specifies requirements for the design/development, production, installation and servicing of automotive related products. Side Impact Protection (SIP): Extra safety feature of RECARO child restraints having energy absorbing foam strategically placed in areas on the child restraint where it is especially important to protect the child in a crash.
