If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 22), follow the steps below to install the receiver included with the chest pulse sensor. 1. Make sure that the key is removed from the console and that the power cord is unplugged. 34 Remove the indicated Screws (3) from the back of the Console Base (85). 2. Before operating the television, you must connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal on the treadmill. Note: Use a CATV cable to connect to an external source such as a cable box, an analog cable, a satellite TV box, or a VCR. No CATV cable is included. HOW TO CONNECT A 75 OHM CATV CABLE 1. The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effective and enjoyable. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button. As you exercise, the console will display continuous exercise feedback.
If the Start button or the Speed increase button is pressed, the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph. As you exercise, change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed increase and decrease buttons. Each time a button is pressed, the speed setting will change by 0.1 mph; if a button is held down, the speed setting will change in increments of 0.5 mph. Note: After the buttons are pressed, it may take a moment for the walking belt to reach the selected speed setting.
The right display—This display will show the distance that you have walked or run, the speed of the walking belt, the incline level of the treadmill, your pace (in minutes per mile), and the approximate numbers of calories and fat calories you have burned (see FAT BURNING on page 28). This display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor.
When only three seconds remain in the first segment of the program, both the Current Segment column and the column to the right will flash, and a series of tones will sound. If the speed and/or incline of the treadmill is about to change, the speed setting and/or the incline setting will flash in the right display to alert you. When the first segment ends, all speed settings in the matrix will move one column to the left.

HOW TO USE A HEART RATE PROGRAM During heart rate program 9, your heart rate will reach approximately 85% of your age-predicted maximum heart rate. (Note: Your age-predicted maximum heart rate is calculated by subtracting your age from 220. For example, if you are 30 years old, your age-predicted maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute).

HOW TO OPERATE THE PERSONAL TELEVISION HOW TO USE THE INFORMATION MODE The console features an information mode that allows you to view treadmill usage information, select a system of measurement for the console, and turn on and turn off the demo mode. The information mode also allows you to adjust the settings of the television and to save channels into the television’s memory. IMPORTANT: Before operating the television, you must connect a 75 ohm CATV cable to the 75 ohm terminal on the treadmill.

HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be permanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill. 1. Hold the metal frame firmly in the location shown by the arrow at the right.
HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand. Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it. Pivot the frame down until the catch is past the latch pin. Catch Open Latch Knob Latch Pin 2. Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands, and lower the treadmill to the floor. CAUTION: To decrease the possibility of injury, do not lower the treadmill by gripping only the plastic foot rails. Do not drop the frame to the floor.
TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please call the toll-free telephone number on the front cover of this manual. PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet (see page 11).
Raise the Uprights (84) to the vertical position. Remove the three Hood Screws (7) from the Hood (41), and carefully pivot the Hood off. 7 84 7 41 Locate the Reed Switch (63) and the Magnet (46) on the left side of the Pulley (47). Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch. Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1/8”. If necessary, move the Reed Switch slightly using a slotted screwdriver.
PROBLEM: Television reception is poor SOLUTION: a. Check for the problems listed below and follow the applicable instructions. • Ignition (black spots or horizontal streaks that appear or a picture that flutters or drifts)—Usually this is caused by interference from automobile ignition systems, neon lamps, electric drifts, or other electric appliances. Try changing the position of other electric appliances to correct the problem. Make sure that the treadmill is plugged into its own electrical circuit.
CONDITIONING GUIDELINES is to burn fat, adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone. WARNING: Before beginning this or any exercise program, consult your physician. This is especially important for individuals over the age of 35 or individuals with preexisting health problems. For maximum fat burning, adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees and back. 1 2. Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended.
