The V 1500 treadmill combines advanced technology with innovative design to let you enjoy an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise in the convenience and privacy of your home. HOW TO SET UP THE TREADMILL Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. HOW TO USE THE HEART RATE MONITOR HOW TO PUT ON THE HEART RATE MONITOR HEART RATE MONITOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE Before you use the heart rate monitor, please read all instructions on this page and the following page. • Thoroughly dry the heart rate monitor after each use. The heart rate monitor is activated when the electrode areas are wetted and the heart rate monitor is put on; the heart rate monitor shuts off when it is removed and the electrode areas are dried.
• The heart rate monitor is designed to work with people who have normal heart rhythms. Heart rate reading problems may be caused by medical conditions such as premature ventricular contractions (pvcs), tachycardia bursts, and arrhythmia. Locate the battery cover on the back of the sensor unit. Insert a coin into the slot in the cover and turn the cover counterclockwise to the “open” position. Remove the cover.

Plug the power cord into a surge suppressor, and plug the surge suppressor into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. Important: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets. Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBETM, a high-performance lubricant.

DIAGRAM OF THE CONSOLE I. STOP Button—This button stops the walking belt. When the button is pressed, the LED displays will pause and the TIME display will flash. Refer to the drawing on page 10. J. Key with Clip—The key turns the console on and off. The attached clip is designed to be worn on your waistband. If the key is pulled from the console, the power will automatically turn off. A. ENTER Button and + and – Buttons—These buttons are used to enter age and maximum speed settings for pulse programs.
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER 1 HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE Attach the clip to the waistband of your clothes. 1 See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER at the left. Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill. Find the clip attached to the key (see the drawing on page 10), and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes. Next, insert the key fully into the console. Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward until the key is pulled from the console.
DISTANCE/LAPS display—This display shows the distance that the walking belt has moved and the number of laps you have completed (one lap equals 1/4 mile). The display will change from one number to the other every seven seconds. Note: During the first few minutes that the treadmill is used, inspect the alignment of the walking belt and align it if necessary (see page 26). 5 Follow your progress with the LED track and the LED displays. The LED Track— The LED track represents a distance of 1/4 mile.

HOW TO USE PULSE PROGRAMS 1 Put on the heart rate monitor. You must wear the heart rate monitor when using a pulse program (see page 7). 2 Insert the key fully into the console. See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 12. 3 Select the desired program. When the key is inserted, the manual mode will be selected. To select a pulse program, press the MODE button repeatedly until one of the two pulse indicators lights.
To stop the program, press the STOP button. Pulse programs should not be stopped temporarily and then restarted. To use the pulse program again, reselect the program and start it at the beginning. 6 Each program CURRENT PERIOD is divided into one-minute periods. One speed setting and one incline setting can be programmed for each period. The speed setting for the first period is shown in the flashing CURRENT PERIOD column of the LED matrix. (The incline settings are not shown in the matrix.

To use iFIT.com CDs, the treadmill must be connected to your portable CD player, portable stereo, home stereo, or computer with CD player. See pages 18 and 19 for connecting instructions. If you have a TV with a built-in VCR, see instruction B. If your VCR is connected to your home stereo, see HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO on page 19. To use iFIT.com CDs or videocassettes, the treadmill must be connected to your portable CD player, portable stereo, home stereo, computer with CD player, or VCR.
• Adjust the volume of your CD player or VCR. If the volume is too high or too low, the console may not detect the program signals. If the speed or incline settings are too high or too low, you can manually override the settings at any time by pressing the SPEED or INCLINE buttons on the console. However, when the next “chirp” is heard, the speed and/or incline will change to the next settings of the CD or video program.
7 HOW TO USE PROGRAMS DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEB SITE When the on-screen countdown ends, the program will begin and the walking belt will begin to move. Hold the handrails, step onto the walking belt, and begin walking. During the program, an electronic “chirping” sound will alert you when the speed and/or incline of the treadmill is about to change. CAUTION: Always listen for the “chirp” and be prepared for speed and/or incline changes. Our Web site at www.iFIT.
The DISTANCE/LAPS display will show the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved. THE INFORMATION MODE/DEMO MODE The console features an information mode that keeps track of the total number of hours that the treadmill has been operated and the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved. The information mode also allows you to switch the console from miles per hour to kilometers per hour. In addition, the information mode allows you to turn on and turn off the demo mode.
HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE 1 Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be permanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) in order to raise, lower, or move the treadmill. 1. Hold the treadmill frame with your hands in the locations shown at the right.
TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a.
PROBLEM: The walking belt is off-center or slips when walked on SOLUTION: a. If the walking belt is off-center, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. If the walking belt has shifted to the left, use the allen wrench to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1/2 of a turn; if the walking belt has shifted to the right, turn the bolt counterclockwise 1/2 of a turn. Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt. Plug in the power cord, insert the key, and run the treadmill for a few minutes.
REEBOK UNIVERSITY WALKING AND REDUCED RISK FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE Reebok University was launched in 1993 to fulfill a vision to establish a “university without walls” that develops quality, researched, state-of-the-art fitness programming for the fitness industry throughout the world.
During a 24-week study, not one of 59 participants who walked five days a week at speeds between 3 and 5 miles per hour sustained a walking-related injury that necessitated consulting with a physician. Carroll and his colleagues10 reported that 14% of the elderly subjects participating in a walking study suffered trainingrelated orthopedic injuries, mostly to the lower leg and foot. The majority of injuries occurred in the group assigned to "fast walking.
EXERCISE GUIDELINES During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone. WARNING: Before beginning this or any exercise program, consult your physician.
